This spring, momma Robin built a nest on our power meter, maybe six feet from the back door, and after weeks of sitting there, yesterday I got my first glimpse of her work: two hungry chicks. One has to admire the nesting spot, so close to us humans that few predators would have the gumption to go after her chicks, the tradeoff being, this jittery mom is frequently flying away when three-year-old human girl gets too close for comfort, or when human dad goes out to water the fledgling tomato plants.
I love spring.
