MY RECENT POSTS

The Food Mag has so far still failed to pay many of the contributors for the Summer 2009 issue, including paying for my cover photo of Eric Ripert.

Meanwhile, they have a new issue coming out with Wolfgang Puck on the cover. I wonder if all these celebrity chefs know… Read full post »

Latest Palin Debacle

Please, please please, someone tell David Letterman to stop apologizing.

Let's get a simple thing straight: the joke wasn't about a 14-year old getting raped. It wasn't about her at all.

It was about SARAH. Sarah, the flag-wrapped, bible-toting, winking, God-Guns-and-Guts espousing, g-droppin'… Read full post »

Always keep it personal!

Maryland Life Magazine has commissioned me to shoot a series on the Chesapeake Bay 'deadrise,' a boat with a unique hull design that has long been the workhorse of the Chesapeake Bay waterman's fleet. Some of these are now being converted to pleasure boats - with many more rottingRead full post »
Just back from a 3-day, 2 city trip to kick off my contract with a large multi-modal transportation company. Denver was cloudy most of the time we were there, while Seattle was sunny and gorgeous. So much for stereotypes!

Top Chef Eric Ripert

John Spaulding photographs celebrity chef Eric Ripert - and a number of dead fish - for the cover of the June/July issue of The Food Magazine.

Shouldn't make fun; the shot was frightfully rushed, we had 2 lights mysteriously fail to cooperate, we had closed off half of

Another cool iPhone App

Is your cell phone camera too slow? Check THIS out!

It takes 25 photos at pre-set intervals of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 or 3 seconds, creates this multi-frame images, and then combines the frames into a mini-movie. Too Cool!

The only drawback is, I wish it would let

Another one...

This one is called "Darkroom." It uses the iPhone's built-in accelerometer to determine when the camera is still. You frame your picture and press the button, and then a little slider shows when the camera is still enough to take a photo without letting camera shake blur the photo. If the… Read full post »

I'm a pro photog addicted to iPhone pictures and apps

As a professional photographer, I have many thousands of dollars invested in cameras, lenses, computers, software, and accessories, and countless hours spent in state-of-the-art training and education. Nonetheless, I must sheepishly admit I am utterly addicted to shooting pics with my iPhone cam… Read full post »

Fun with iPhone camera again

When I used to assist we would constantly shoot up Polaroid film and
write little captions and stick them up on the studio wall. A common theme was drinking, after a long day of shooting.

An early form of blogging I guess.

Here's deja vu, courtesy of iPhone.
