A Hard Day's Blog

Oh, by all means, I'd be quite prepared for that eventuality.

I Have Mad Men Glasses!

Rate: 4 Flag

While watching the first disc of the second season of Mad Men, I got very excited when I saw that scene where Don Draper comes home and pours himself a drink.  You know, the scene that happens several times an episode?

"Oh my God!", I exclaimed.  "I have those glasses!"

Photo 186

As you can see from this photograph, taken moments ago,  mine are the larger size.  Which is good, because I can fit more alcohol in them.

My Mom and Dad got married in 1958, and they got a set of these as a wedding present.  I have six in this size.  I'm sure they had the smaller size as well, but I don't know what became of those.  I also found a set of four juice glasses in this pattern (but in silver) at the flea market a couple of months ago.

So, I'll be tuning in on August 16th with a Tom Collins in my "Mad Men" glass.  I've got five more.  Care to join me?

I often say in comments that I like the way someone thinks. In this case, I like the way you drink!
Ooh, I'm envious. And wish I could drink with you, watch the show together and dish. Although actually, this is a show that I don't want to talk during, and sometimes not right after, either. It's too rich and intense.

I see stuff on MM that I recognize from my childhood all the time. There was an episode where Betty wore a (non-matching) sleeveless blouse and shorts combo that looked very much like an outfit my mother wore in that era, esp the blouse (cotton with embroidery on it).
The wonders of the interwebs. I actually found a photo that shows the blouse, although not the shorts:

I'm at that age and stage to remember this sort of thing myself.
A toast to you, Owl!

Silkstone, I remember a lot of those clothes as well. And I mentioned on another blog that, back in the early 80's, when "new wave" was coming into fashion, those clothes started to be highly sought after (think B-52's second album cover). You could still find them for really cheap at all the thrift stores. I made some fabulous finds back then!

mamoore and Hells Bells, I'll see you in a couple of weeks for cocktails!
Cool! I can bring the ice, in my silver penguin-etched insulated ice bucket. (though Mom sometimes used it for swedish meatballs, instead.)
I'm in too! Can't wait!
Count me in, too. I recently caught up on all of Season 1 -- again. Can't wait for Aug. 16. (I always drink something while watching Mad Men.) It is simply the best show on TV.
Nora, you and you ice/swedish meatball bucket are more than welcome!

yekdeli and suz, I'll see you there too!
