A Hard Day's Blog

Oh, by all means, I'd be quite prepared for that eventuality.

Alternative OS Cover For Veterans Day and Remembrance Day

Rate: 32 Flag

There were some truly outstanding posts made for Veterans Day/Remembrance Day yesterday, and many OSers believe that the cover did not reflect the significance of the day.  Here are links to as many of those posts as I could gather.  Please feel free to add any that I've missed in your comments below, or send me a PM.

Thanks for taking the time to post these stories.
Thank you for going above and beyond for the readers on Open Salon. I think this is a good list and I am thankful to you for making the effort.

Rated.
Thanks ronnieray and JMitch!

It was my pleasure, Torman. It's a bit of a slow day at work, anyway. I just hope that some people see this - not that it makes up for the cover yesterday. It's just another post getting lost in the miasma that is OS!
Wow, what a list! Very nice of you to do this - it was a lot of work, I know. I hope to read some of these when I get a bit more time.
Thanks for compiling this list. I'm going to go through as many as I can. And, I hope the "Editors" of this site are thoroughly embarassed--they should be.
great idea and great effort
You did wonderfully in gathering up these lovely works in one place! Thank you very much.
Thank you for including my piece in this remarkable list. There are several on there that deserve far more attention than they got -- I'm thinking of Emma Peel and Cap'n Parrotdead and JK Brady especially.
Thank you, Jeanette. The time you offered for this compilation is in itself a tribute to our veterans.
Jeannette - you are a saint! What a generous deed you have done!
Thank you for compiling these, Jeanette. I'll need to check out those I missed.
A wonderful compilation. Thank you for including me.
Thanks for doing this.
Hi Jeanette,
Aim and I were working on a similar post with lots of help from AtHomePilgrim. I have more links if you're interested. Thanks for doing this.

R.
Obviously a labor of love. Nice job.
Thanks C.K. I have added the new links.
Thanks to all for reading and commenting. (And, Lea, thanks so much for saying that.)
Nice compilation - very kind gesture!
I got so teary-eyed, I had to stop reading these. I've never seen so much poignant writing on one day on OS.
Truly remarkable -- all of you.
R
thank you so much for taking the time to compile this list - there were many great posts yesterday (and today) and i had missed so many of them. thank you for your hard work. :)

(and thank you for including my post from today, as i had a discussion with a friend last night who was unaware as to why the poppy symbolizes veterans'/remembrance/memorial day. thanks!)
Great job Jeanette. A nice service for OS'ers. I'm going to link to this.
What a thoughtful idea and generous effort. I've read some of these excellent pieces and will read more. Thank you.
This must have been hard work. It should be on the cover, even if belated, so it gets a big, fat ZUMAPICK!

Thank you so much for doing this.
I had no idea there were so many touching posts. I echo all the comments of the others. In some ways this list just reinforces the caring values of OSers that I've come to appreciate here.
Thank you for an incredible amount of work. I look forward to visiting as many of these as possible.
Well, in addition to giving these very worthy posts a little more publicity, which they richly deserve, I also made some new friends today, and that has been a very pleasant bonus!
Thanks Jeanette for this incredible list and for including my post on it! I am excited to go read all of those that I missed.
Thank you Jeanette, thank you.
Wonderful post and also thanks to C.K. who did the same thing but didn't get hers up quite as fast. So many fine examples of writing that should not be ignored.
This is just wonderful. Imagine what would happen if this kind of care and thought were put into this site every day.

And the fact that you picked the days most important subject also helped.

The talent reflected here (and I can say that because all I did was put up a video) is astounding.

Thank you.
Wow, that was a lot of work for a very worthwhile project. Good recognition by you et al. Thank you.
Awesome job on getting these listed. I too noticed a big lack in the coverage of all the excellent stories that were posted in rememberance on the front page and am commenting on this and rating to get it into the feed and on the front page.

Excellent.
Wonderful list! I read so many great stories on that day. Thank you for putting them together and posting them.
And here I spent a good portion of my morning running about and posting when it was all wrapped up in a bow in one of the posts I missed! Fortunatly it is never too late to say "Thank you". Thank you for this alternate cover!
Jeanette, excellent work shown here in the Veterans Day index! Thank you!
Very thorough. You are a true patriot! :-)
Wow. You're amazing to have collected all of those posts. You have such a good heart.
