Carlene Carter was really something back when I first moved to Nashville. The daughter of June Carter (granddaughter of Mother Maybelle) and Carl Smith, and stepdaughter of Johnny Cash, she's definitely country music royalty. Plus, she was married to Nick Lowe, so she has some serious power pop mojo as well. She lost her way for awhile, lots of drug problems (boyfriend Howie Epstein, who appears in the video below, died of an overdose), but she's still making music. The video below is the title track from her 1990 record, I Fell In Love.
A Hard Day's Blog
Oh, by all means, I'd be quite prepared for that eventuality.

Don't do it on my account. Didn't mean to change your posting any.
(is it OK to refer to country as kick-ass? it's usually a term reserved for rock but certain styles of country qualify too in my book)
aka, yeah, see what I mean? She doesn't look like the same person at all. Which isn't necessarily a tragedy, lots of people change. But I think drugs can really change a person in a harsh way.
nanatehay, some country is absolutely kick-ass! Glad you enjoyed the videos. She was just so damn cute!

Hot Dang! I'm thinking about saddling up my palmetto bug and moseying on over to yer neck of the woods just so I can meet Carlene. I can't help it I got a little bit of country in me.

What stage presence, voice, personality, eyes... legs!
Totally impressed and.. kind of... in love!
Trudge, she did have a nice voice. And if there are palmetto bugs in Florida big enough to "saddle up", I'm never coming there again! (I think everyone has a little bit of country in them - most people just won't admit it.)
trig, yeah, I think I was a little bit in love with her too.
greenheron, you are obviously a woman who knows her guitars. I had no idea (and I also had no idea what that guitar was). Thanks for educating me!
Bob, country and rock are two sides of the same coin, as far as I'm concerned. They've gone steady, broken up, married and divorced many times. John Carter Cash is very active as a musician and producer in his own right, as well as keeping the family legacy alive. His website is here.
Jeremiah, sorry if I scared you. From what I've read, she's pretty well grounded now, and seems to be happily married. My husband just mentioned that he has met her and done some mastering work for her. I had no idea!
Candace, glad to introduce you to another Carlene. I've always liked the female versions of male names (Carlene, Earlene, Pauline, Henrietta, Georgette, etc.) I guess my own name falls into that category as well.
