Assisted Suicide

Rate: 4 Flag

Imagine yourself trapped inside a body that no longer performs.  Imagine having to call upon someone to manage your every need.  Imagine the indignity of having another human manage your own human functions.  And your finances.  And your day-to-day activities.  Oh, the humiliation.

Once the patient's wishes are fully documented and witnessed, it is time to give them the respect they deserve and let them live or leave their lives.

I had no idea this would get me up in the ranks of Sally and Leah and Sheldon and..............
Imagining - really empathetically imagining - is of course part of the problem. And add to your imaginings that all of this caring-for may be done when one is totally uncomprehending of themselves or their environment, for days upon weeks upon years.. and it becomes not only embarrassing but bordering on horrifying.

I fail to understand how 'life is sacred' can justify such an existence, for *that* is not life and there is no sacred there.

Rated for empathy.
Seer, you and I, and millions of others, may be on the same page, but the 'life is sacred' cadres always fail to acknowledge reality. Thanks for agreeing.
It comes down to the definition of "life". Is it merely not being dead for some people? I've seen people for whom death could not have been worse than what was being done to keep them "alive".
Bobbot, point well taken. Yep, there have been a few plugs I've wanted to pull, too.
