The Art of Loneliness

Rate: 37 Flag

The art of loneliness

It’s zen.

Here, and back again.

“That was the life I should have led”,

I thought to myself inside my head.

My windows dim,

and my heart whispers

to my soul;

“I have always loved you.”

I cry to know myself,

So I sleep.

Stained instead,

I dream;

And go to the place

Of spinning suns

And faire dust,

Where every day

I know I must

Trust;

the strings

that anchor the light

to simple human flesh and bone.

"El Mariachi: Give me the strength to be what I was, and forgive me for what I am."

 Una Palabra

Translated (rough)

One word says nothing,
and at the same time, hides all,
same as the wind hides the water,
like the flowers hide the mud.

One look says nothing,
and at the same time, says all,
like the rain upon your face,
or some ancient treasure map,
like the rain upon your face,
or some ancient treasure map.

One truth says nothing,
and at the same time, it hides all,
like a home-fire that won't be exstinguished,
like a rock, that's born of dust.

If one day I miss you, I will be nothing,
and at the same time, I will be everything,
'cuz In your eyes, I find my wings,
and find the edges, in which I drown,
'cuz In your eyes, I find my wings,
and find the shores, in which I drown,

You are such a poet. You conjure and capture essences, yet set them free in words.

As for the soundtrack - I love that movie, not least for the music. Also, I was sipping tequila blanca earlier tonight.
Owl_Says_who! I am sipping as we speak - thank you for your comments always. Love you *hugz*

peace, love, life, and light xoxo

"The art of loneliness

I've never thought of it like that, but there is an art to it isn't there? Not an art necessarily to being lonely, but in fooling yourself into thinking it's something else.
yes, we must trust the string of light tht anchor the flesh and bone... both the poems are lucid, lovely, fresh like summer breeze in the tropics. a hug.
Nanatehay! Truth - "Not an art necessarily to being lonely, but in fooling yourself into thinking it's something else." :) yes, I think that's it. I always appreciate you reading me, man.

peece,
dj
Rolling! Love you and *hugz* back at you. Thank you for your comments :)

I do not possess the "art" of loneliness, but at times I fear that I have it down to a science.
I appreciate your touching poetry and the concept of the Zen of the cycle. rated
You went straight to the center of my life right now and Nana's comment took it to over the top.
Well done, boys!
We don't have enough words for loneliness.... there are so many kinds. Lonely for one, lonely for a crowd, for family, for newness, for the past, lonely for understanding, for love, for the intent in someone's eyes. There are so many ways to be lonely.

I loved this, needless to say.

(Hope you're sleeping in.)
"I cry to know myself"

This is exactly how I feel sometimes and have never found the words for it - until you gave them to me in your beautiful poem. It will change my day today...and the sun is shining after days of rain!
How very passionate you are (and I am too, watching Banderas). Your words are nets of fireflies capturing feelings that need to be told. Thank you.
loneliness is an art...this is stunning as always...xox
"One truth says nothing,
and at the same time, it hides all,"

Wow.
thank you for these early morning words that inspire and touch
I embrace the loneliness, using the silence to listen to the universe within my heart.

Beautiful thoughts and music...thank you for placing this where I could read it this morning!
Your poem is touching and wise. The final image, '(light) anchor(ed) to .. flesh and bone': this is exquisite.
Thank you for adding the clip; I loved this song in the movie and your translation adds a whole new layer of meaning. Together these words have made a significant contribution to my Sunday morning.
I also dream and go to the place of the spinning sun.
I love the new clip . . . that song is brilliant!
I know this one by heart. I wish I an elixir to take away the loneliness but all I really know to say is "the only way out is through" Hugs
Beautiful. And is it this air, this time of year? Or it it our constant?
This was so good in so many ways. I will read this many more times in the future.

There is surprising wisdom in your poem. Like I've said before, you inspire me.
Wonderful work Jim.

TheObseleteMan! Thank you for dropping by and kind sentiments. I fear that as well at times, especially at three am.

LifeIsGood! Nana's comment as well as all of yours have added to the piece in ways that only 'putting it out there' can. I am always thankfully amazed at the responses and the comments - makes the poem/thought/post more three dimensional. Like a beautiful snowflake, we all comment and become the branches and patterns around the first thought, part of that thought in unique and surprising ways.

wakingupslowly! Thank you for commenting. "Lonely for one, lonely for a crowd, for family, for newness, for the past, lonely for understanding, for love, for the intent in someone's eyes. There are so many ways to be lonely."
I agree - and you say it beautifully. I did sleep in today, late Saturday night OS'ing... :D you all are a very welcome surprise.

mamoore! Thank you for coming by and 'feeling' this with your kind comment. The sun is out, yes here too :)

Penrose! You are most welcome. as for "words are nets of fireflies capturing feelings that need to be told. " Thank You - poetic words with sincerity and imagery in equal measure, beautiful.

Robin Sneed! Thank you for stopping by, I always love to see your smiling face and kind comments xoxo :)

tai! I really like that song too at the end of the movie "Man on fire" - fitting. thanks for stopping by :) My translation does not do the original much justice, but perhaps gives you all an idea.

marytkelly! You are very welcome - Thank you for stopping by and your kind comments. I am always eager to see how/if anyone was touched.

BuffyW! "I embrace the loneliness, using the silence to listen to the universe within my heart."
Powerful truth and action, I am attempting the same :) I am happy to see you here and thank you for your kind comments. You are most welcome. Peace, Love and Light to you and yours, Buffy.

psychomama! You are very welcome - and your descriptions of the last set of images is very appreciated. "Your poem is touching and wise. " I don't know how to take this compliment - but I thank you with all I have.

Chuck! Thank you for dropping by - yes, I appreciate getting to know fellow dreamers.

Owl_Says_Who! I love it too, one of my late night favorites :)

Athena Bradford! I wish it was not so but I know what you mean. Point very well taken - pushing on through every day. Hugs back at ya.

scupper! Thank you :) - I think it is somewhat in the air over here, but will blame the time of year for now. If I was to ask reflection in the mirror, it may agree with the constant for now.

Duaneart! Thank you for your words - they are encouraging and inspiring to me as well.

Kind of blue! Thank you very much for the visit, the reading, and the rate! :)

Being in Saudi I am not sipping tequila. You weave some magic with your words dj. I'm not a poet for the very reason you are - I just can't conjure up the images that the good poets can. Rated.
Look at all these cool people you've lured here with your stunning poetry. You never fail to inspire.
GJI Penguin! Thank for stopping by. Your words are appreciated as is the sentiment. peece and love to you and yours!

this poem is heartfelt and therefore powerful enough that i can almost share the catharsis you must have felt writing it.
Still saving this to savor . . .

Hello, my friend...just stopping by...you're a good man, you are loved by your friends for your heart and talent. Never forget that. xox
You describe the feeling so well.
'That was the life I should have led." We have all thought this at one point or another.
The Art of Loneliness: I have yet to master it. Thank you for sharing this--it is beautiful.
This spoke to me. Beautiful.
I've hung a few prayer flags in that place.
This poem seems prescient in retrospect, as you have left a gaping loneliness in your sojourn away from OS. There is a gossamer delicacy to these lines that cautions me to tread lightly. This piece is a whisper, a sparkling dance of fairy dust in the melancholy afternoon sun. Trust. A trapeze act I am grateful to see you mastering. Thank you for the blessing of your peece, love, and light, David. May the strings tethering your light to this community gently draw you back when you are ready, salved in your loneliness by the warm embrace of your countless friends.

—Melissa
trusting the strings that anchor the light... hoping ... waking up each day thinking of where one could be with the spinning suns. hope you r well.
sending you light and peace and wishing for safe passage to wherever you wish to be - greetings on the occasion of Navratri to you David
Hey, DJ - How are you doing over there???
I hope all is well in your world. thinking of you, poetman.
Where are you? I miss you....

I wrote you but you didn't answer.

I hope you're all right.

I miss you.
LOneliness is an art, there's a rhythm, and a learning, and a cadence to it's existence. We lose something so important to us, and loneliness takes up the slack and fills in the spaces.
