"I'm Tired of Dealing with the Crazies" - Chris Christie, a Decent and Courageous Man
I have to give credit where it's due. There are lots of critical things I could say about Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, on other subjects.
But not this time. That's the last I'll mention it in this post.
Because today, Governor Christie showed that he has character. That he has decency. That, well, you can at least say of him that he's a man. That he is a finer person than his entire political party. Today he stood up for a judge he promoted to the Superior Court in his state, Sohail Mohammed. You can imagine what the objections were. There are many, many Republicans now willing to make scapegoats out of Muslims simply to be Muslims, to score points among the slobbering, racist scum that collects at the Republican base, because locking up the idiot vote helps a great deal.
Christie, apparently, doesn't give a shit about the idiot vote. Watch the whole thing and find yourself clapping eventually without meaning to. He calls the people shrieking "Sharia Law" and other such nonsense "ignorant" and worse. That's where he starts.
None of these things will help him with the GOP base. And he knows that. And he does not seem to care, and in fact is angry that he should. Which of course, he shouldn't.
I do not give praise to Republicans lightly. But this deserves praise.
Well done, sir.
Watch the entire thing.

Here in New Jersey we know Christie for what he really is...and "decent" and "courageous" have very little to do with his personality and character.
The GOP should be ashamed that in its context, THIS is taking a stand. But it is.
This doesn't mean I think he's right on just about anything else.
Don’t want to get into an argument over this, but the title of your thread (the title you chose) includes the phrase:
“Chris Christie, a Decent and Courageous Man.”
I understand the point you were trying to make—but you overstepped in your attempt.
Christie is not “decent” by any stretch of the imagination—no matter what he did in the particular instance you are citing. Christie is not a “courageous man” by any stretch of the imagination; he is a bully—and almost by definition, that makes him cowardly rather than courageous.
Except for the most right-leaning, zealot, tea partiers—I doubt there are many here in New Jersey who would agree that Christie is a “decent and courageous man” even among non-extremists who support him.
I know all this stuff and don't disagree, but I guess it makes you feel better to condescend to me.
And no, I won't be getting into an argument with you. I don't have to.
They hate him now for this. (Which is revealing)
I am the only person in OS to take this post serious enough to actually reply—I presented my reasons for disagreeing with part of what you said and did it logically, reasonably and courteously. And you took my comments as condescension.
Wake up! (Now that was condescension…not the stuff that went before.)
I mean, if that doesn't work, then the guillotine. Sure. But I still hope.
As for reading and comprehension - pffffft!

Mark - you'-e made your point, repeatedly, and keeping on detracts from what you otherwise ha-e to say... Please, let us allow each other to ha-e di-ergent opinions...
I have friends in New Jersey, several of them teachers and the vicious way he has run that state and attacked public employees, especially teachers, is appalling. Your comments back to Frank were in themselves a self-righteous lecture--the very thing you criticized him for supposedly doing.
As far as Markin Japan calling Frank names : "obstinate, unreasonable, obstinate, inflexible, and illiterate" now that is rich after the crazed comments he makes on a consistent basis about Democrats. I thought Mark was a radical lefty but I am glad to realize that he is simply another brainwashed Republican which makes all his comments on this site make sense.
A guy living in Japan and another residing in my beloved Seattle teaming up to praise a goon because he did one decent thing. I suggest that people thousands of miles away from New Jersey, myself included, allow the residents from that state to decide if the man is indeed decent and courageous. All of our opinions on the man mean nothing unless he wants to someday take his tripe on the road. By the way, I always love it when people use all caps to make points.
Note however that Mr. Christie refused to reappoint Judge John Wallace Jr., a respected moderate to a seat on the New Jersey Supreme Court. Mr. Wallace was the only African-American on the court. Mr. Christie described the court as "out of control", apparently because it had disagreed with some of his decisions. Perhaps this one time Governor Christie did show decency and courage, but keep in mind that he was the first governor to bully schoolteachers, who cancelled a vital infrastructure projectthat was part of the economic stimulus program because it might have required him to raise a tax, and who cost New Jersey millions of dollars in Race For The Top federal grant money because he wouldn't have it said that he reached a compromise with the Teacher's Union.
Unsurprising that such a faux radical would resort to abject lies to burnish a reputation shattered by last week's delusionary screed.
Your credibility sinks closer and closer to your buddy apisa, which shouldn't bother one as facile as you.
Oh, and as I'd not expect a coward like you to read my blog, you WOULD be TOTALLY unaware that I lived nearly thirty years in New Jersey, so even should I choose to comment on Christie, which I haven't, I'd be much more qualified than you.
In fact, I challenge your sorry wretched as* to find a single lie I've ever posted, here -- I've pointed out one of yours - what say ye, sycophant?
I love how I'm constantly posting angry things against the GOP and if once, just once, I notice ONE GOP member doing ONE sane and decent thing and mention it and suddenly I'm the enemy.
Sometimes I think our side deserves to keep losing, because it appears we're a bunch of children who react to news with no more thinking than Pavlov's dog.
Keep on hating. I suppose it's much easier than actually attacking conservatives to their face. And the left's favorite meal, traditionally, is ourselves. Carry on.
Pavlovian dogs is an apt metaphor, no disrespect to dogs, intended.
I just wonder why nobody notices the implicit indictment of the GOP that they never, ever say things like this that is both implied by my finding this notable, and well, the fact that I overtly say that, that the fact they're willing to pander to bigotry is their shame and Christie has just called them out on that one thing.
The point is that Christie saying anything sane is like seeing a dog talk. It never happens. That's the point. And would people prefer the GOP NOT start to see fissure points? I'm encouraging whatever of those I see cracking. Here's one. I don't know if anyone realizes Christie's base hates that he says this(again, look at the YouTube page; in fact, I made a comment complimenting him saying this and HIS BASE attacked me just like the lefties are here--folks, you talk the same; are you proud?) and that won't be a help to him as far as votes.
One of the things, I most, appreciate about You is both Your consistency and courage to react honorably to the constancy of change, which stands in stark contrast to Your detractors.
Other than a single gratuitous EP in my early days, here, I've gotten none since, nor do I care, nor expect to ever, again get one.
I write what I believe, attack the g.o.p, the dumbocrats, or whoever is deserving of disdain, and I don't care what others may think. I WILL be true to my convictions.
Convictions? frank ain't got none - never did- never will.
dr. potatohead pretends to have convictions, but is willing to blow with the wind.
He, once, wrote: "Are these issues solved?: *help for the mentally ill who wander our streets *disgusting conditions at Vet hospitals *the government spying program on its own citizens *the 47 million without health care- of which a 100,000 or more will die this next year due to not getting proper, preventative care *the insanity of still locking up millions for smoking or possessing pot *the pure evil of Guantanamo *are our ports secure from terrorist's attacks *the millions of homeless *people living in poverty in one of the richest countries in the world *the crooks who charge 450% on title loans and payday loans to those who can least afford it *the millions losing or who have lost their homes *the auto makers who simply refuse to make reasonable cars to replace the embarrassing fleet of Hummers and SUV's that clog our roads, pollute our world and make us dependent on oil dictators. *The oil industry's incredible and obscene profits which they use to buy and dominate advertising with pretty music and lies about how much they are doing for the environment." Maybe he'd like to answer his own questions, before becoming a faux radical in support of war, torture, genocide and obama.
And I've never understood this about left commenters: the need to drown every post in a laundry list of stances. If I say this about Christie I am obligated to mention every one of the horrid things he has(definitely) done and said out of--what, balance?--ultimately cancelling out the decent thing he did here. Well, that's stupid. At best then the conservative who has a moment of sanity realizes there's no up side to BEING sane and stops.
But even more so, by having to mention EVERY THING at EVERY TIME, you render all your points meaningless, just another vomit of talking points people's eyes just slide past. These are the people who bring "Free Mumia" signs to every single protest, all those people who, rather than focusing on the point of said protest, use it as an opportunity to get their own point out(it's real-life spam!)at the expense of any force the protest might have and any possibility you might interest people in coming to your side. Instead they just see another bunch of lefties masturbating in public.
Take it as read I think the GOP are evil, but we are sad. In any case, Correct Left, I am not your propagandist or anyone else's.
Those who would choose to conflate the singular point of your post, and focus, instead on other matters with which they take issue with Christie should be ashamed of themselves:
a. They haven't a clue as to the entirety of Your writings, and
b. "Shame" is not in their DICKtionaries.
