"What I DO For My F**king FRIENDS" --River's Edge (Tim Hunter, 1986)
This film came out almost the same time as BLUE VELVET, Dennis Hopper in both(and I am certain this influenced TWIN PEAKS, not least because Hunter directed several episodes of the show), and in a lot of ways they fit very well together. For my own part, this was the only truthful film I knew in the 80s about people my age at the time. I know lots of people think that's John Hughes, but they're idiots. Only rich kids lived like Hughes characters. This is what my 1980s looked like. Apart from being in Oregon. And yes, it has Keanu Reeves(in fact, this made him a star), but this also may be one of the only good performances of his career. Typecasting.
Anyway, here it is complete. Return with me now to the age of seventeen.
