The woman is Kriztina Morvai, leader of Hungary's far right Jobbik party. She's successful at what she does. In 2010, her party, a proudly neo-Nazi organization, won seventeen percent of the vote in parliamentary elections and it has strengthened since. The men in jackboots holding the Jobbik Party flag -- ok; you can't see the jackboots, but must you, to know they're there?
What distinguishes Jobbik from other thuggish Euro-Jew-haters is that it's the only party in the European Union that, as the Anti-Defamation League reports, "regularly publishes" and distributes anti-Semitic tracts, videos, and books. Jobbik's leaders regularly speak in Hungary's parliament about
. Jews' "blood libel",
. how pure Hungarians (and others) would do well to stay away from us because we are "lice-infested", and
. that we prefer to be "dirty".
(I have heard "Dirty Jew" before.)
What the Anti-Defamation League finds in surveys is that Jobbik's growth mirrors the increase in anti-Semitic attitudes generally in Europe. In Hungary, for example, sixty-three percent agree with anti-Semitic statements about Jews as to "money, Jewish disloyalty to the state, and the Holocaust." In the same survey, a quarter of the French believed these statements, an increase in the percentage from a few years back. The good news, I guess, is that only one in ten Dutch adults agreed with these lunatic statements.
You should note that these statements:
. are about Jews-qua-Jews;
. are not about Jews-as-Zionists;
. are not about the Near East;
. reflect and revive a racial anti-Semitism that pre-dates by many decades Israel as a modern state.
. are about the essence of Jews; these statements are existential.
Seventeen percent of the vote is thirty-three percent-plus-one-vote short of a majority in Hungary's parliament. I recall an earlier, similar margin being overcome in a very short time, starting at Munich.
Jobbik finds homosexuals as well as Muslims and other minorities equally deserving of being separated out from Hungary's (Europe's) mainstream. We've walked this road. It leads to Thereisienstadt and Bergen-Belsen.
How long will the European Union tolerate this festering disgrace?
