I haven't posted in awhile but something on the internet caught my attention this morning:
Obama and Las Vegas at odds again
The Oval website article quotes Obama's statment yesterday in New Hampshire: "You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices. It's time your government did the same."
Mayor Goodman quickly replied "I'll do everything I can to give him the boot. This president is a real slow learner."
At the City of Las Vegas Mayor's website, there is a link to his email. So, I sent the following:
Dear Mayor Goodman:
I was very upset you disparaged our president by calling him a "slow learner" about his comment about Vegas. He was merely suggesting that people should not gamble their money away rather than saving for college, etc.
My husband and I are flying to Las Vegas in March and had planned on spending money in the casinos, etc. While we won't be canceling our trip, I am seriously thinking about spending less because of the inhospitable atmosphere you have created with your comments.
Obviously, I am an Obama supporter and unless you don't want people like me to visit Las Vegas, please support our president in these difficult times.
I almost want to send another. The fact that a sitting mayor would publicly say he will work to get Obama out of office makes me so mad. Doesn't he have any sense of political awareness that it might offend Obama supporters? He is the one who should get the boot.

on one trip there, the cab driver was quoting the statistics of growth (this was some time ago, not recently) - all the new hotels being built, the jobs being created, the influx if new residents, the housing boom...
he said, "they don't build all this stuff because people win"
gah, don't get me started...
but so many people confuse freedom to speak with freedom from hearing unpleasant news.
GeeBee--yeah, too bad he doesn't run for governor. I can't imagine Nevadans being stupid enough to elect him.
Stella--yes, he's getting more publicity because, in a sense, Obama equates Vegas with gambling. He could have said Atlantic City, giving them the free publicity.
Fuyo--not sure about that. I don't see how the mayor thinks that comment has anything to do with Wall St. bankers. Maybe explain?
Later comment--that's a good story about the cab driver.
al loomis--the mayor was the one that was threatenting. The only leverage a consumer has is saying they will not spend money. I'm not a resident of the city so he should respond to visitor comments. I do think he overreacted to Obama's comment but went too far in saying that he would try to get him out of office.
Shame on the Mayor... no kidding
