The Truth About Cats and Dogs

Rate: 9 Flag
Jack the cat
(Jack, the Cat with good boundaries)

My youngest daughter taught me how to appreciate and love cats and to discover all their quirkiness and favorite rubbing spots, etc.  Cats are black belt alanons -- they are great teachers of setting boundaries, making you give them distance, not confiding in you!!  I never thought in my life I would even put up with a cat.

dog

(Just one mass of love)

Dogs teach unconditional love -- probably why we're so crazy about them. They love us no matter what and show it.  They are people pleasers perfected.

Cats can put you down, ignore you, give you the see you later and whatever attitude.

Dogs can't get enough of you, love you just the way you are.  They are forgiving. They can't do enough for you. They are everything we want in a mate and more.

Maybe I should make my god-de-jour a dog.

Oh yeah, you are a gramma now! When your baby has a kitty, you are a feline gramma extraordinaire! I am one too. I have two grand puppies..."Baron (Boo boo)," Kelly's dog, "Cooper," Michele's dog and yes, the grand kitty..."Freddy Alvin Mercury," "The Fred!" I have written about him here as well with photos, you name it! Love my 'grand-imals!!!'

Bout time you posted something here, Jo Jo!!! Writing is your forte' and it is the best therapy. What, with all the balls you are juggling right now, can't imagine why you don't just "squeeze blood out of a turnip," for crying out loud! Get your writer's high on! Put those knitting needles down and put your fingers on the keys more often! Big sissy's orders! xoxo
A very sweet post. I can't say I agree with anything you said about cats, but that's only because I have to protect my reputation around here. Rated for fluffy niceness.
Like your daughter, my friend Susie has helped me appreciate both cats and dogs. I've always felt like I much have some kind of deficiency to not truly appreciate them. I blame mom and dad for that! Ha! Making our dogs sleep outside all night long and me thinking that was normal. Loved the simplicity and wisdom of this post.
Just Cathy: Hey, Sis! As you well know, I was a grandma years before I had my first baby! And the cat didn't do it! Thanks for your support! My writing has been limited to the gazillion applications and appeals to government agencies, etc. to get help for Maguy and epilepsy and brain damage. No writer's high there!

Andy: My ego's back arched and its claws hissed out when you referred to my first "blot" as sweet, fluffy, nice. But as you know by now, since I have had the happy privilege of reading your scoop on cats, the cat made me do it! Thanks for even looking at my first which was, originally, just a short email to one of my sisters who encouraged me to make this my first post. I'm an OS virgin and, by the looks of it, should stay one! Keep my you-know-what intact!

Mary: You made me do it! Thanks a mil! I mean it. Now your public will have the privilege of becoming acquainted with yet another sister. Yeah. I'm coming out of the closet. Your readers will sympathize with you for having survived your childhood despite us! And I have now met Andy, the only non-sister, who read my blob. He is a sensational, imaginative, daring, original writer. You oughta read what he thinks about cats! Unnerving!
First posts about cats! We're... like... writing twins or something. I, too, have recently posted my first (and gave it up willingly, I should point out.) It is fun, and somehow invigorating. Especially when a stranger stumbles upon it and finds it "fluffy and fun."

Congrats on your first post. You three sisters aren't the witches of Eastwick by any chance? Just checking. Gotta keep all my options open.
Chris: Wow! My 6th comment! I'm ablaze! Look out Mary and Cathy! Oh, and about the Sisters of Eastwick? We'll never tell!

It's weird about cats isn't it? Both our first blogs. I would have sworn mine would have been political, witty, intelligent. But, no! It was about a cat. What can I say? And it was sweet and fluffy -- the blog not the cat. Aargh! I gotta read your piece.

Oh and BTW, my daughter's new cat Jack taught us how to play fetch. I'm serious. We throw a mouse and he catches it and brings it back like a dog and waits for us to throw it again, and again, and again......
Kyle: Thanks! I look forward to reading more of you too. This OS goes both ways! I love your open, radiant face. If I were a feline I'd want to live with you! Actually, as a human I think I'd like to live with you!
I'm convinced that sometime in the distant past we started spelling god backward.

If seems as likely that we did the same with cat.

I'd rather sit on a dog than a tac.

???? whatever
wschanze: I got a belly laugh out of this one!!! Thanks! I didn't know how badly I needed that.
Ahhh cute photos.

I'm a Cat-Dog kind of person. ~nodding~ :)
Tinkerertink69: Great! Now I have another new membership. Yippee! This is my lucky day!!!
Oh this is priceless!

Pawed.
LadyMiko: Purrrrr.....
I was a cat person my whole life--loved them. Then we got a dog when my youngest was 5 (i wanted another child, my husband agreed to a dog). I cannot believe how in love I am! Can't imagine living without a dog now--although I would love to get a cat now too!
Karen: Yeah, dogs are the best. They don't go through the terrible two's, don't talk back, don't think you're a complete nerd when a teen, and don't cost $100,000 for college. No DUI's, no homework, no texting ad nauseum. You know what I mean. They love you no matter what. Great teachers in the art of compassion and open heartednes. Congratulations!
Great first post!
Cats love ya too, we just don't slobber all over ya!

The Rescuers: Yeah. You're right. Jack vacillates between 007 cool and clumsy kitty falling backward out a window. Gave him some 'nip this morning and watched him do some hip hop and he's been asleep on his back ever since.
