Bio
Born in the oil and gas deposit-rich region of North Texas, on the fraying edge of the Permian Basin, my mother was a special ed teacher, my father, a “pumper,” a far more glamorous job among the petroletariat than the name would indicate. I managed to escape the small town that spawned me promptly after High School graduation, a modicum of sanity still intact to ride shotgun with my generous portions of anger and resentment. Some five years later, I copped a BS degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Said institution and I gladly parted ways. In the intervening 20-plus years, though my only ambition has been to have ambition, I have miraculously coughed-up a boatload of freelance articles, a couple of books of dubious merit, and a metric ton of songs of occasionally inspired quality, not to mention a paralegal certificate, 11 years of experience as a legal underling, and tens of thousands of bicycle commuter miles.

States Rights! States Rights! Governor Perry's Tea Speech

Rate: 5 Flag

STATES RIGHTS! STATES RIGHTS! Governor Rick Perry's Speech at Austin Tea Party Rally, 4/15/09-- with some more pics from the rally.

It's a little scary how much he sounds like GW Bush, at times. Even scarier is the shades of George Wallace.

I had to stop listening when he said nucules when he meant nucleus. What's up with his hair that he's wearing the hat?
I don't know what's up with the hat Mrs. Michaels? I hated it.
I thought that was half his constituency--the people who like his hair.
OK, nucules? This guy is channeling GWB big time. I also have a problem with this one: Let me be honest with ye. Things ain't lookin' real pure right naow. I don't know about that, in conjunction with the quotation about how Obama is "rampaging" through Washington, "overturning our rights." The whole thing sounds a teensy bit like racist code to me. Not to mention the states rights' theme!? WTF? Should we go back to pre-Civil War days?

What exactly are the rights being violated, btw? Really--I don't know. I mean, what precisely is this man talking about? He mentioned Congress "eroding our rights" and Washington taking away rights and Obama trampling on rights. I'm trying to understand. I mean, isn't the economic mess we're in right now directly due to the private sector? Lord, I'm losing my patience.
Governor Goodhair.
Let them go. Then we build a fence at the Oklahoma, New Mexico border. If this is the kind of buffoon Texans keep electing, they deserve to be their own country. They deserve each other. The rest of us will set up a nice little immigration quota that will allow those of you who dont support this kind of lunacy to emmigrate to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Oh and so we can keep the 50 star flag, I say we invite Puerto Rico in.
Oh and by the way Texas, please return all the money the rest of us have been spending on you these last 170 years. That's the price of secession, ok?
Now, I know WHY I voted for anyone but Perry in all of the preceding elections in which his name was on my ballot. He is a disgrace to Texas A&M University and I don't even have a dog in that fight. Let him stay home and comb his hair. Thanks for posting this clip even though I couldn't sit through all of it. To paraphrase the Texas saying, "Perry is all hair and no brain."
What right has been overturned by the Dems? The rights takers were the Republicans. My God, what revisionist thinking.

Oh, I see. "States rights." Them's Confederate words. And by the way, Gov., your beloved Sam Houston was a Unionist who was deposed as governor when Texas joined the Confederacy.
