Finally, the good little communist, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, has an idea I can wrap my every-lovin' redneck working-class arms around and bestow enough wet kisses to drown a pack mule. Senor Chavez, per the hold yer breath 'til you turn blue New York Times, wants to close the golf courses of his fair South American people's republic. Calling golf a "bourgeois sport", Chavez and his supporters are making moves to shut down two of the nation's most popular golf courses.
From the NYT:
“Let’s leave this clear,” Mr. Chávez said during a live broadcast of his Sunday television program. “Golf is a bourgeois sport,” he said, repeating the word “bourgeois” as if he were swallowing castor oil. Then he went on, mocking the use of golf carts as a practice illustrating the sport’s laziness.
All I can say is "Hell Yeah!!!" I cannot agree more with El Nuevo Castro. I've been wanting to do such in this country since I was old enough to speak. Golf is a waste of space and resources. Why do these rich blokes need acres and acres to knock around a little white ball and make small talk about mergers and acquistions? How many soccer fields or affordable houses could you put on an average golf course? Do you know how much water these courses take to maintain? Your average golf course empties a lake every day just to stay green, not to mention all the damn chemicals they put on those things.
Let's follow Hugo's lead. Shut down the golf courses and make better use of the space!!! Maybe we can put some hospitals on them.

- Bio
- Born in the oil and gas deposit-rich region of North Texas, on the fraying edge of the Permian Basin, my mother was a special ed teacher, my father, a “pumper,” a far more glamorous job among the petroletariat than the name would indicate. I managed to escape the small town that spawned me promptly after High School graduation, a modicum of sanity still intact to ride shotgun with my generous portions of anger and resentment. Some five years later, I copped a BS degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Said institution and I gladly parted ways. In the intervening 20-plus years, though my only ambition has been to have ambition, I have miraculously coughed-up a boatload of freelance articles, a couple of books of dubious merit, and a metric ton of songs of occasionally inspired quality, not to mention a paralegal certificate, 11 years of experience as a legal underling, and tens of thousands of bicycle commuter miles.
