She has a point about companies not wanting to hear any negative feedback, even if it's constructive. And I've seen plenty of people succeed just because they know how to manage perception, and they are likable.
But I will say that I have worked for large corporations who go out of their way to create a culture which attracts and rewards those who are smart and entrepreneurial. Also company culture can vary widely from city to city, or even from one department to another. So it's not quite as monolithic a picture as she paints. Yes, there is definitely an aspect where it's all about winning the popularity context - but in what human arena is this not true?
