I joined Facebook when people other than college students could first join. I stayed about three months, but frankly, it was so time consuming I gave up and deleted the account. Last week, after so many friends had joined facebook for networking purposes, I tried again. Funny thing, everything I thought I had deleted was still there. They wanted even more of my private information and it was even more complicated to use. Within 3 days, I had cancelled my account again. My college age son refuses to have Facebook... I think this is best.

It figures, there ain't no free lunch. I rarely visit, I found it too intrusive and full of nonsensical, time wasting silliness.

I quite facebook some time back. There's an excellent video on how to commit "facebook suicide" here: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-commit-facebook-suicide.

It's important to do it right or else you leave all kinds of info still in there on facebook's server, I found the video very helpful and am pleased to say I now have a life!!

I need to know who created the video before I believe how accurate it is. Anyone with any sense limits the information they put on FB, and who their "friends" are. But if there are government bots scanning FB for terrorist activity, I'm not sure I mind. Facebook has also been used by reformers and protesters to schedule and promote events, so it's not just about the evil government collecting our private information (which we willingly share).
