It's Not Really My Own Little World Anymore

- Bio
- I suppose that I should give some sort of Bio - I'm a superannuated Boston transplant to the Seattle area who came out when the bottom fell out of the Telecom industry a few years back. Engineering just ain't what it used to be and it's unlikely it ever will be again. I'll get over it.
I've lived here for five years and doubt that I'll ever get used to the west coast. That may not be a bad thing.

Breaking News
Details are sketchy, but Josh Marshall is reporting on a
possible Obama assassination plot. What Would I Do?
This started off as a response to Lisa Lucas' wonderful, feeling comment in Kirs' blog Does it matter? No. But does it hurt? Yes. But, as they sometimes do, it grew into a post of its own.
Lisa gave us a bit to think about while everyone's lining up to take… Read full post »

"And here’s to good old Boston
The land of the bean and the cod
Where Lowells talk only to Cabots
And Cabots talk only to God."
-Who Knows
While commenting on Designanator's absolutely beauteous Nantucket photomontage, I mentioned that I would kill for some fried… Read full post »
It's the End of the World As We Know It - But They Feel Fine

Heard about this on "Day to Day" on NPR. The tiger cubs' mother abandonned them and the Golden Retriever stepped right in.
The nature park owner says that the dog will only be able to raise them for a few days, but that it will be enough to get… Read full post »
Obama Ad: Low Road
He's NOT Ziggy Stardust
I think that the movie that most got me was Ridley Scott's original "Alien" back in 1979 featuring this cuddly fellow:

It was the first time I had a chance to see wide-screen movie on a proper screen with a good stereo system. I know that by… Read full post »
Culinaria Too - Lookin' Sharp
e showed us hers, I guess I'll show you some of mine. It's amazing (or maybe apalling) what we accumulate over the years.
I never new that we got off on so many lickerish tangents, but e's blogs on Rachel Ray and Culinaria: Knives… Read full post »
We're having our first days of real summer here in Sunny Seattle, which always makes me look back to good summers in my past. There was the summer of '75, when I was working at a resort outside Yellowstone and first met my wife Karen. There was the summer… Read full post »
We've been yakking alot about TV recently, so now for somethng completely different.
My wife and I were part of a throng at Seattle's Paramount Theatre, a lovely old venue, Thursday night for a taping of NPR's "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me". I had always thought it was a… Read full post »
A Video Decalogue (Plus One)
We seem to have a new meme going. I’ll follow ePriddy’s lead and go with my Top Ten Shows Ever - and I mean since Philo T. Farnsworth invented the TV camera tube and the first practical idiot box (why aim low?).
Here’s a little trip through my… Read full post »

My Decalogue
Oh Sally, I imagine by now that you’re tired of us all taking your name in vain, but you started it my friend. Here are my 10 things that most people would never want to know:
- I write with fountain pens. I especially like to use ones made/ … Read full post »
I was reading Arlene Green’s great little piece “On

A Spectacuarly Bad Idea
Here in Seattle, summer is book-ended by two arts festivals; the Folklife Festival over the Memorial Day weekend and the Bumbershoot festival over the Labor Day weekend. Both involve large crowds, music, and arts.
Last weekend’s Folklife Festival had an extra element. On Saturday a young man… Read full post »
Just a Short Little Rant
I was listening on NPR this morning about a Congressional panel grilling oil company execs about the price of oil in general and gasoline and diesel in particular. Now the execs brought up the usual, predictable excuses; the increased demand, increasing difficulty of finding new supplies, and the e… Read full post »
Well, the IRS announced last week that those of us who have our tax refunds directly deposited in our accounts can expect our “stimulus package” payments shortly, while those of us who do it the old fashioned way can expect to wait a tad longer, but the check will… Read full post »
I was writing a comment to Karen Novak’s excellent blog on her health “Hello and Fit the First” and I’ll echo J.D. Black’s comment – Karen you are one of the cool kids. Julie Delio’s comment really hit a nerve. She pointed out how even with insurance, serio/… Read full post »
Greetings From Sunny Seattle
Well, actually it was sunny today, except for the part where it really rained cats & dogs this morning. Winter (and Spring) in Seattle is like those two weeks of April in New England that make you want to open a vein, except that they stretch on for four months. I/… Read full post »
