Open Salon is about to cease! Time to act is now............

Imagine a world without technology.

Imagine a world without satellite communication.

Imagine a world without computers.

Imagine a world without internet facilities.

Thats how the world used to be, and it was accepted largely because we knew no other way, it was part of normality. But, supposing that should happen in the 21st century. Fellow internet users, how would we survive? Of course, we know that could never happen, the technological age is with us to stay and there is no turning back. Or is there?

Nasa is telling us to prepare for a once in a generation storm because of an increase in solar activity which could result in widespread blackouts and leave us without critical communication signals for considerable periods of time.

The overheating of national power grids, mass disruption of air travel and the complete shut down of electronic items, navigation devices and major satellites are just some of the consequences of the sun reaching its maximum power in only a few years time.

As well as this, the bolt of lightning caused by the super storm could bring disastrous consequences for the world emergency service systems, hospital equipment and of course would leave us without our computers, sat navs and ipods.

The worst case scenario would see large parts of the world plunged into darkness for months.

A long dark summer? no communications. No hospital services to vital health needs.

....................... AND NO OPEN SALON, for with no computerisation this facility will not exist. What would you do?

So, here is the challenge, how will you survive an OS free zone? How would you readjust your daily/weekly schedule? Is there life beyond OS?

I would read a book, do a crossword, go outside and enjoy the world. I must admit to being a OS junkie, but it is an addiction I could learn to live without if I must.
"Imagine a world without sattelite communication."

Imagine a word with spell check!
Just carry on as usual. The wife and daughters would probably have a hissy fit and constantly be asking me to fix it or call someone I know too. Wouldn't miss it except for the casual conversations and the brilliant work by a lot of very nice people. People would be compelled to communicate with others face to face. What a novel idea. Hi Jon my regards to you and the family..o/e (S)
I can live without OS, but not an electric fan.
Without the power grid there would be no popcorn... cheeseburgers would be served cold. Rush Limbaugh would cease to ooze through the afternoon and endless and idiotic "Seinfeld" and "Friends" reruns would dry up. There would be no hot showers or cold beer. What would I do in a world that included no OS? I dunno... it would be brave new world. I'd probably start by working on that popcorn thing.
Without power, this world would erupt into spontaneous little wars everywhere. People would be afraid, very afraid, and roving hoodlums would start robbing and raping and and anything else they could think of. Grocery stores would be overran, and any other thing that the mobs would want. It would destabilize the world, except North Korea, who has no electricity to speak of anyway. Besides that, I would really would miss OS. I may stock up on some unread posts, just in case!
No doubt, I'd spend more time doing the things I should be doing when I'm clicking around OS now.
I would post using smoke-signals until the EPA serves me a citation.
"The worst case scenario would see large parts of the world plunged into darkness for months."

If this should happen, of course, there would be difficulty in doing anything that required sight 24/7. I guess it could be possible straining the eyes through the light of an open fire, as they did in the old days.

Thanks for all your comments folks, some interesting thoughts that you each have brought.

Now, can someone enlighten me, not being an American, whats the initials EPA about? I assume something to do with the environment?
EPA = Environmental Protection Agency. It is a US government agency that is suppose to help protect the environment.
