Dundee, Scotland.
Known universally as Dundee, city of Discovery. With some measure of pride the local folks will speak of its history in this respect and also point out the places of interest to the locality.
Some may enjoy the walk up the Law. No, not the Law hill. Tempting to say those two words together as it is a hill, but to do so reveals an ignorance of what its all about. The word "law", in this context, literally means hill, and no one who knows what they are talking about says they are walking up the hill hill.
Then there is a visit to the waterside to see the comparison of past and present.
The RRS Discovery was the last wooden three-masted ship to be built in Britain. Designed for Antartic research, she was launched in 1901. Her first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, carrying Robert Falcon Scott & Ernest Shackleton on their first, successful journey to the Antarctic, known as the Discovery Expedition. She is now the centrepiece of visitor attraction in her home, Dundee.
Dundee, the home alsoof Desperate Dan. He is a man reowned for his great strength. No one has ever had the strength of Desperate Dan and through the years generations of children have wondered at his exploits. But Dan was the cartoon character of a childrens comic.
This week saw visitors who were unable to climb the Law, nor to make it down to the waterside, nor did they ever consder they had the strength of Desperate Dan. But they were marvels themselves having seen far more than most on an average bus trip.
This was the annual bus trip for the people of Lochgelly who had passed the age of 70. They would spend some time in the coffee shops, peruse through the local shops, admire the beauty of the Scottish countryside as the bus carried them from one venue to the other.
This was sufficient for them to have some wonderful memories of the day to share and to talk about throuh the year in the twilight of their lives.
Then the highlight of the day as they then went to the town hall for a meal together at a place that every citizen of Lochgelly knows is the centre of the universe, LOCHGELLY.
For those who wish to read more of my writings, the details of my book can be seen in the link to the left. See the cover design below.

For any who do not know the centre of the univers, Lochgelly, perhaps I should explain that it is a small ex mining community of about 7/8,ooo. Since the latter part of the 20th century the coal mines ceased to exist, but that close community spirit of miners still exists.
