I have never been a cook. I envy people who can cook like I envy people who have successful relationships. I, the cuisine-ignorant-perpetually-single girl, assumed I would always boil an egg for breakfast or pick up a pre-packaged, macrobiotic dish from Whole Foods for dinner. Then, my luck changed. I met and got engaged to a wonderful man. We moved in together and that's when I realized we had nothing in common when it came to our taste in food. I am a vegetarian who sometimes eats fish (as in sushi). He likes heavy or French cuisine and would rather shove a pen in his eye than eat a salad. Cooking for someone and eating together is like preparing the set up and making love so if you don't enjoy it together than your relationship is kaput. After seeing Julia/Julie, I decided to learn how to cook the heavy or French cooking he likes but adjust the ingredients to make them healthier like I like. Can two different food styles come together like the blending of two distinct lives? I don't know but this blog will be my journey towards commitment both in love and in the kitchen. La Belle France, A Votre Sante!
