Top Ten State Fair Joys

Rate: 5 Flag

That's the title of Garrison Keillor's article recently published (July 2009) in National Geographic Magazine.  But I think Mr. Keillor missed one of the greatest state fair joys:  To spend time with friend, real or imagined, in a fantasy land.

When I read Lea Lane's post A Conehead at the Fair:  A Summer Tale, I knew that having an Open Salon meet up at the great State Fair of Texas would be a perfect match. We could meet friends, spend some time chatting and then disburse, either in singles or groups, to explore the Fair.

There is so much fodder for blogs at the Fair for both writers and photographers.  And with the extreme interest in food on Open Salon, how can you stand to miss the many food demonstrations and contests, let alone the largest gathering of fried foods know to man and woman?

So come to Dallas the weekend of September 25 - 27 and experience a real life OS gathering plus the State Fair of Texas.  But I can't promise that you'll come away with photos like bbd's.

Oh man, the Texas State Fair. Didn't they do an old movie about it?
Yes, they did. And bbd's bride has a connection and he posted about that in the link I put above. It's a marvelous fair.
Julie, won't be able to make it this year, but maybe it can be an annual option and then I would love to go. You all will have a blast, I know. I think OS is becoming a real center of travel gettogethers. If anyone wanted to they could spend much of the year attending these meetups.
Just ask Lonnie about the OS get togethers! He seems to be present at most of them.

You were the inspiration for this, Lea. Thanks.
awww Julie, you are such a lovely friend. I love you.
Happy Birthday Julie!! xoxo
I don't know how I"ve been missing you -- but I found you now. Next meet up -- I'm there! I'm so looking forward to going back through your posts to look at your photos.
