I decided to do a post on real men. There's all kinds of stuff out there about manly-men, real men, sexiest men, etc. And we can go all the way back to the 40's and the "original" "He Man Woman Hater's Club" founded by Spanky and Alfalfa.
So, let's take a look, OK? Don't just skip to the end of this to see the winner, scroll through and check out the beefcake. You might come across someone who you think is more deserving than my choice.
So is it Brad Pitt or Daniel Craig? What do you think? Scroll on.

Or maybe it's Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson or George Clooney?

Nope? Scroll on.
How about those bastions of "the American Way" Glenn Beck or Dick Cheney?

Naw, I don't think so either.
So, how about Hugh Jackman or Johnny Depp? Both good looking, kind of mysterious guys.

OK, so keep scrolling.
Maybe you think it's Will Smith? Or how about Matthew McConaughy? Both great looking, popular actors.

But they're still not quite "it".
But hey, it's the World Series, so how about Derek Jeter or Ryan Howard?

Naw, I'd just be jealous of these guys.
Or staying with athletes--maybe one of my favorites, Brett Favre?
Close, but still no cigar.
Nope, here's my candidate. A real man. A guy who does what he loves.
......almost there
You see, he's my son Michael and he's with my granddaughter Raegan. This is a picture of a real man. A manly man. Doing manly man things. Scroll down and see.

We need more men like this. Or as they say sometimes "You da man!"

that is most definitely a real man there.
good job raising him up.
But, Jane--I can't take any of the credit for raising him up. But he sure turned out more than all right. I'm proud.

Anybody who can get through "Waddle" is more than a real man. It wasn't one of Proust's best books.

Poignant and touching.
Let's see: Daniel Graig, George Clooney...I want to ADOPT Will Smith, Derrick...but in real life, they're all too young. So is your son, alas who IS the best pick.
Ah well, I'll just continue to window-shop, thanks.

I always stare when I see dads and their kids (especially little girls) who are getting to know what a man CAN be.
I love that you love your son.
HipHipHooRated! :)
Thanks for a hearty giggle.
I loved Spanky and Alfalfa.
I recall mentioning the He - Man Women Haters Club as a jest. The academic neighbor scolded me. I was so confused. I join no clubs. That was about 55 - years ago. I use belong to`The American Beekeepers Association for the honeymoon mead recipes. fun.
I was wondering why Ya left out the photos Smirker Tricky Venal, Bribed Dick Nixon, and Henry Kissinger? But, thanks for excluding them.
Great ending.
I met a woman who raves over the conductor who was at the Kennedy Center.
She loves Riccardo Muti.
I gotta go listen to music.
A book must be written:`
Wives of music conductors.
Thanks for all sane teachers.
Folk can join the opera clubs.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Super-rated.
My brother has had more of a chance...the balance still isn't quite fifty-fifty, but he was in the delivery room when both his children were born, and (after his first marriage broke up) became an amazing single parent.
The happy news is that my father is getting a chance to be a "real man" with his four-year-old grandson. Apparently their latest favourite game is "knight and squire" - the four year old is the knight, and my almost-seven-foot tall father is dancing attendance as the squire. I wish I had a picture!
By the way do you think any of the aforementioned could read "The little engine that could" ? LMAO

Thanks to al l of you for your comments today. And, Michael and Katie are going to be having a new sister for Raegan Nicole in about a month. Raegan was our quarter million dollar baby because she was 1 1/2 lbs. at birth and is now a happy, bouncing 2 year old. And yes indeed, Mike is a terrific Dad. I'm really proud of him.
Great post!
Thanks for the comment but I disagree. For all kinds of reason this is an admirable young man and father. He got where he is largely on his own because I wasn't a good enough father to make sure that I was around from the time he was 16 on. And, I know him. He's character is strong enough that he won't make that mistake. So, he's the he-man, not me.
Oh yeah.
Dick Cheney is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever met.
