Play this while you read—it’s one of my all time favorites:
Yes indeed, it’s all about the numbers. Even as there are news reports today that there were fewer unemployment claims filed last week than any other week in several years. But that doesn’t help the 350,000 or so who filed fresh unemployment claims though.
We’ve gone through months of protest and occupying over the 99% vs. the 1%. Today’s news also includes more revelations of Mitt Romney’s investment funds parked in Cayman Islands accounts.
Well, maybe that’s not too bad but it certainly is another fine example of the man’s lack of any identification or empathy whatsoever with the millions who look at their FDIC insured savings accounts or accounts at their local credit unions which are earning them pennies. I just shake my head and wonder. But the “teabaggers” are all about protecting the right to do just that in the hopes that someday, maybe they’ll be able to do it too.
I’m eventually going to get to a point here folks. The person who just filed an unemployment claim is not reassured by the notion that there were fewer claims last week than there has been in a while. It has happened to him or her. And besides that’s last week.
And we’re saying that the unemployment rate is going down—8.5% at last count. But that doesn’t help those who are part of that 8.5%.
That’s the number I’m looking at right now. To hell with the 99% or the 1%. It’s about the 8.5%.
Because I just joined them.
I guess after nearly 15 years in the business that I’m a lousy car salesman. The irony is that I’m a damn good automotive sales trainer.
Crap.

here's hoping you hook up with a new job soon.
HUGGGGGGGGGGG
Linda--thanks and sorry for my sarcasm in my 1st comment. Iz's song has always given me peace--and it gives me a "boo-boo" face too.
David--thanks, my friend. Hey, it's not the first time. Not even the 4th time. But I sure do get weary of it.
(that song is the best version I know)
THAT is the last thing you want to hear, or at least
it was always the last thing I wanted to hear whenever
it happened to me. In those days though (the last time
was April 2000 and haven't had a straight job since)
finding another job was never much more than an inconvenience.
These days, nasomuch... serious business.
Still though, I have fond memories of collecting
unemployment and working part time for cash--
dealing dope and such.
I guess there is no reason for me to spew the cuss words coming to mind here. I expect you have said enough of them already.
Welcome to the club. I been in it for years on end.
Best of luck. Sincerely.
After running our company since Lance died I am also having to turn in my resignation. It's the thanks I get for...
Meanwhile, here's another version of Rainbow, which never fails to bring tears streaming down my face. She (Eva Cassidy) sings straight into the heart of my inner brat and breaks it - every damned time. Rainbow
Good luck with the job hunt.
Chrissie--guess I shouldn't be feeling so sorry for myself and so much like the Lone Ranger
tr ig--I'm going to try to go back to doing training even on a freelance basis--see what happens I guess
Mission--I'm just too worn down to cuss and too bummed out to cry. Sometimes I feel like I'm caught in "Groundhogs Day"
Unbreakable--yeah, I agree. Thanks.
Desert rat--I hear you. Any cushion we had is long gone. We've been supplementing our income out of savings for a couple of years to the point that those are long gone
Mrs Raptor--I need those "fast vibes"...thanks
daisy jane--you know as well as I do that people in Carlsbad have money--they just demand that you sell it for a loss
Chicken maan--"he's everywhere, he's everywhere". Thanks and I'm listening to the link you sent right now.
~wanders off to check for himself~ Hmmm, seems I'm worth $1.95 total, for my life time.
Yep, about right!! :D
Seriously, I know where you're at, I'm still there, since March 2010. I've applied for jobs involving cleaning toilets to serving hamburgers right after that(using the same gloves!! :D) and without an interview or a kiss been told, sorry, your face reminds us of our drunken uncles*(well they didn't really say that, but they might as well of, because then at least I'd know why!! :D)
But, good luck, and remember, that 8.5 % is an average, heck some analyst with lots of letters behind their name say the real percentage is more like 25 % and it might take like YEARS beyond YEARS for the economy to recover if it ever does to pre-2008 levels!! HURRAY!!!
Good news!! Right? :( :D
:D

From your writing style, I suspect you are good at sales. I say that because what you write reveals a sharp ability to naturally see the story from the other guy's POV. That, IMHO is the edge in sales.
