CINCO DE MAYO - COSMOS to "COSMORITAS"

Rate: 21 Flag

In my world, COSMOS ARE A FOOD GROUP.

Enjoy my favorite "COSMO CONCOCTIONS" for this Foodie Tuesday and my once secret "COSMORITAS" for CINCO DE MAYO!!!

ANDALE!!!

untitled Cosmo Tall

You will need:  Fruit - Lime, Orange, Strawberries, Cranberry Juice = Vitamin C plus Premium Vodka, Triple Sec or Cointreau, First Call Sweet & Sour Bartenders Mix, Organic fine sugar for the rim and ice.

A few variations on my favorite Cosmo:

1.  Equal parts of the following:  1 Jigger (1-1.5 0z. ) each Premium Vodka (spring for the Ketel One), Triple Sec, First Call Sweet & Sour Mix, Regular Cranberry Juice (Welch's is best for flavor) and a fresh wedge of lime.

Either chill your martini glasses OR fill them with ice cubes and set aside.

Grab your chrome or stainless steel cocktail shaker and fill with all above ingredients except the lime wedge.  Add lots of ice and shake your booty and your Cosmo for 20-30 secs, until well chilled.

Dump the ice from your martini glasses and fill with shaken Cosmo.  Run the lime wedge around the rim of your glasses, squeeze and spritz lime to top off and drop the wedge into the glass.  Sip and enjoy!

untitled Cosmo 2 The color should be deep like this.  Passionate deep pink.

Not pale like the below, though it looks pretty, it is too tart.

untitled Cosmo 3 Needs more depth and a hint more sweetness to cut the acidity.

2.  Variation on above - Orange Flame Cosmo - Prepare glasses as above and run a slice of orange around the rim and dip the rim in organic fine sugar for flare.

Prepare as above, except use Cointreau instead of Triple Sec, spritz with a squeeze of orange and garnish with an orange slice.  And if you want to impress your guests, add the jigger of Cointreau last. When serving, light the Cosmo with a match for a dramatic flame and a gasp of delight!

untitled Cosmo Fancy glass Wait for the rim to cool, just a few seconds and prepare for a hot fusion of flavors and a romantic cocktail sure to set the mood.

3.  BONUS -  Cosmo Hot Summer Nights Concoction:

My Secret (no longer) "COSMORITA"

Prepare either of the above Cosmos, no cocktail shaker and put all ingredients except garnishes, into a blender with lots of ice and blend.

Pour into sugar rimmed Margarita glasses and garnish with a plump strawberry, slice of orange and a small wedge of lime.  Hence, "Cosmorita's!!!"  This is my favorite summer refresher and a real crowd pleaser.

A  perfect Cinco de Mayo Drink of the Day!!!   ENJOY!!!

(PS - Happy Birthday, Dad.  Enjoy a celestial round of golf!)

Cinco de Mayo meets Foodie Tuesday Drinks of the Day!
Have a great day wherever you are and enjoy the recipes!
We often throw Cointreau into the mix as a variation. My wife got my a really cool glass cocktail shaker for my birthday. If only they weren't so high in calories. Not that there's anything wrong with that?
I'm not into cosmos, but yours look and sound good. Bonus points if you know what Cinco commemorates other than a reason to get sloshed on tequila and Mexican beer. monkey fingered.
As if the spring garden post wasn't bad enough, now this? Bad sister.
BBE - Well, admit I had to go research a little as I mistakenly thought this day commorated Mexico's Independence Day and not so. In short, they battled with the French in 1862 and won with our help, raising the bar for our military forces which helped bring about the end to the Cival War. This day further celebrates the Mexican and American alliance which has grown through all of our wars and causes since, illuminating Mexico's loyalty to America. That's worthy of a day to celebrate! Viva la Mexico y America siempre!
Damn! Girl knows her Cosmos! Thanks, Cathy, all I need is another drinking habit. I can't afford the one I have. ;-)
What a great post!!!........I toast to you Cathy!
Gary - Right back at ya! Thanks! Now if only they were a breakfast beverage? Then I'd need a nap!
Thanks Cathy, I always love adding more weaponry to my arsenal. This one's getting made tonight!

For some variations on a theme, Sheepdog already mentioned Cointreau, which is an excellent suggestion, but Grand Marnier is another option and Absinthe is always fun to experiment with.

You also mentioned Kettle One, a great choice, but if I may... Hangar One is by far the bets vodka I have ever tasted. If you like premium vodka you'll appreciate this one. Available at BM... not enough O's in "smooth" to describe the taste.
Fabulous, can't wait to give it a try!
Skip - Thanks for the vodka tip with Hangar One. Will give it a go! BevMo you say? Very close to home!
Wow, you know your cosmos evolution. The Orange Flame Cosmo is particularly appealing!
Book marked! Cosmo goodness....ummmmm....
I find pure maker's mark over ice is so much easier...

:-)
YUMMY!!!!! This will be hugely enjoyed at our house - hopefully by the pool!

Awesome.
rated for cosmos as a food group!
Sure looks good! =o) I wish A: that I weren't on my way to work and B that I had these ingredients on hand!
Thanks Kathy. They are really yummy to drink I had them before when I used too drink. Plus being a bartender I had to make them a lot for the ladies. The deep passionate pink is the way they are supposed to look like.
Great post and nicely written.
Hooooray :) These look wonderful! I think a tasting party is in order!!! Just in time for summer :)
What the heck! No tequila? Oh well, I guess I'll just chase it with a shooter of Cuervo Centennario. Salud amiga!
Rated & Cheers!
Oh, love those Cosmos! Love the color of the first one and I have all the mixings on hand. Yum!!! That's a really cool martini glass you have in the fourth pic! These will make for some great imbibing on a hot summer day!
Damn, I picked a bad time to quit drinking:)
This looks so pretty and kinda wholesome, it might even overcome my fear of vodka and fruit juice. Even thinking about vodka plus vitamin C gives me flashbacks to an awful unintentional drunk when I couldn't taste the vodka for the fruit juice. Maybe if I made it myself and didn't sneak in an extra 4 ounces of vodka...
Since I only have vodka by itself this evening I'll drink that while
looking at the photos. Thank you for saluting Cinco de Mayo!
(I think Titos is the best vodka, although I haven't had Hangar One)
Cheers! Sorry I'm a day late and dollar (many) short!

Wow, fabu. If I drank, I would so drink this!
Cathy, Try your Cosmo recipe, but instead replace the Vodka with a nice Tequila. Its delish! Tastes just like a cosmo, with a little Mexican flair.

Also, another way to enjoy Tequila, a Mexicola. In a tall glass, mix 1 jigger of Tequila and a splash of lime juice with cola over ice, garnished with a lime. I use diet cola. Its wonderful.
