An unexpected snowfall delights our Corgi, Nick, who was out rolling around in the fluffy white stuff.
The small Aspens in the foreground were slumped over in the snow's unannounced appearance overnight.
From early morning upon awaking, we have seen 3" grow to 6" very quickly.
Barely a week ago, I did an Autumn post with vibrant fall colors in all their potted glory. Now, the Petunias have surrendered to the early arrival of our first winter freeze.
Boy, we sure didn't see this coming!
The Mallard wind chimes that usually find a dry spot before the snow.
Aspens that have barely expsosed their Autumn colors now shrouded in snow.
Hot tub with lamp reflection taken through picture window.
I knew I should have put alway all the pool and sand toys yesterday!
My poor Petunias that were thriving so well into the fall...gone now.
So much for frost on the pumpkin!
Lone pumpkin on front steps in winter shock.
The Red Fern ladden with heavy snow is hanging in sorrow at it's shortened life in the warm Autumn days gone too soon.
The deck umbrella took a beating when minutes after this photo, it fell forward, table toppling and broke. Crazy wintry morning!
Seeing the last remnants of Autumn as the Aspens stand tall and proud between the snow covered pines.
Husband thinking he might be "snowed in" and skip the slow drive over the mountain...
So much for the forecast: "Slight chance of rain with possible snow above 7,500 feet in the higher mountain elevations. Lake level is at 6,200 feet.
We got nailed!
The sun just came out! Time for Remos Fizzes in the hot tub!

As for naked snow angels? Sure, why not!
:-)
Your photos are exquisite, and it must be nice to have TWO gorgeous areas to live in!
Do you think that we're in for a cold, early winter?
It would be nice to have a wet winter though. We sure need it.
Great pictures Cathy! That's one cute corgi. Glad the Husband didn't wait much longer to climb that mountain.

Oh well, half of it has melted already!!!
John - No got snow?!?
Kathy- Wisconsin?! Oh, honey, you got some serious snow coming!
Rolling - Wondering where you live that it is so hot! Yeah, I suppose the pumpkins will freeze but they will still look good for a few months! Not sure how to answer your hot tub question. Hmmm.
Noisy Nora - Really bummed this snow came so early and would have loved to see my garden last another month.
C.K. - You are funny! I could have hidden under my pillows this morning but the first snow is like Xmas morning for me! I jumped out of bed announcing to my surprised husband that there are photo ops to be had! He tolerates me.
GJI Penguin - So, where is home for you again?
Spotted_Mind - You are my heroe and the only taker for making naked snow angels! You rock!
Zumalicious - Oh, you're in Sac! I heard from a sister that it is nice there today. She's in shorts and sandals! Yes, hearing it will be an early, wet winter. And, yes, very lucky to go back and forth between the Bay and the Mountains. Gratitude, daily.
Shiral - So right! Hubby would not have hiked this weekend! Yes, we sure do need the precipitation, whether rain or snow. Lots!
Rated, kisses,
Marcela
Barry - Yeah, I believe your brother is on the Nevada side where likely they got only rain except in the higher elevations where the mountain tops are dusted with perdy new white stuff!
Marcela - The trees here are magical...theraputic. I seriously do have tree adiction and need all the mountain therapy I can get!
JRDOG - I love snow too, when it's fresh and new! Later on, it's just annoying, dirty and messy. Miss fall. This isn't fair. And I just got the pumpkins! Hope they make through this cold spell!

Texas Bubba - "Semi naked mud angel..." OK, that works!
Ablonde - So many flowers and fruit! That's mouth watering and I want my Autumn back!!!
Mothership - Thanks! I can't complain. Midwest winters are the bear! I remember snow days and not being able to open the front door with snow up to the roof! But I loved those years in Illinois.
Mypsyche - You're on!!!
Debbs4 - So hope you are right! Want my warm Autumn and Indian summer back. Now!
JD - Very nice way of looking at this early intruder. Hope it's brief.
Thoth - Glad you liked the snowy pics! I want it to melt! Not ready for winter! Want my warm Indian summer days, the windows open and no furnace clicking on and off 24/7! OK, the snow is beautiful.
Buffy W - You're welcome. It was too pretty not to share, but now it can melt and go away. Not into it and need my favorite season to last more than 2 weeks!
Still, those are some great shots, Cathy. I see that nature isn't watching the local news near you either. We don't have snow yet, but they called for rain yesterday and all we got was a bit of a sprinkle (not that I'm COMPLAINING, 'cause I'm not!).
*SIGH* Seasons change. It's been weird the last ten years, hasn't it?
