Silly Scenes of the Season (Snowbound)

Rate: 24 Flag

The continuous swirling snow outside my picture window is slowly driving me mad.

photo

What does a rabbit named Max have to do with Christmas anyway?

I have finished shoveling the walkway and the burm at the end of my driveway so I can get out when necessary.  Transfixed by the falling snow, there is no motivation to go anywhere, skid around the mountain roads and creep slowly down to the market.

Thank God for CNN and The Weather Channel.  My staples for the time being.  Though, if I hear any more "Tiger Tidbits" every hour on the hour, I may resort to flinging myself into the snow, rapidly fanning my body out to make a perfect snow angel.  By myself.  Too lazy to attempt some clever version of a snowman, although, I'm thinking I may build one in Tiger's image, broken putter and all.  Golf shirt?  Check.  Dirty snow?  Check.  Bag 'o' golf clubs?  Check.  Pants down to his ankles?  Check!!!

This is starting to feel like fun!  Not sure the neighborhood parents will approve of this Snowman.  Hmmm.  Tiger sure did do a "snow job" on his adoring public, his sponsors...oh, and his unsuspecting wife!  Bet she's beyond "tee'd off!"  Enough about Tiger already!  If I were Elin, however, Sweden in the dead of winter would be looking pretty good to me right about now.

So, apparently, walking around my cabin and shoveling outside all morning, has produced some photos to amuse myself and quite by coincidence, will be shared with my blogging public.  Indulge me on this cloudy, snowy day, waiting for grandkids to arrive with a visit to Santa planned for this afternoon.  If we can get there!

photo

Morning was dark, somber and cloudy, with lights on inside to lighten the mood, peering through the icicle shrouded windows.

photo

Icicle strands so proud and prominent from every view

photo

Serious block of icicles from all sides of the house

photo

Frozen Aspens where shimmering leaves in summertime once thrived...shadowed by our mighty pines.

photo

Rear of garage and snow laden Red Fern, with great sledding hill running down through the back yard.

photo

Kitchen bay window an icicle prison...spooky wall, frozen, impenetrable ice peeking in...prohibiting one from seeing beyond it's barrier.

photo

That's better!  Something reassuring, warm and bright, to dissolve the bone chilling scene beyond the windows.  A cozy remimder of warmer days, firelight, dancing flames, warm woolen mittens and a partridge in a pear tree!

photo

A cozy kitchen awaits holiday guests and festivities to come.

photo

Ornamental stars adorn the White Elk chandelier, delighting my wee grandson upon seeing them for the first time.

photo

The Snowman entry rug to welcome one and all (dedicated to Bob Eckstein of snowman fame)

photo

Santa and reindeer door mat to remind us to wipe our feet before entering with snowy feet to and from our snow buried deck.  More shoveling to do!

photo

Nothing says, "The Birth of Christ," more than someone snapping a photo of a Nativity Scene with their iPhone, caught in the mirror.

photo

Nativity Scene and reflection of knotty pine cabinets in the kitchen.  Glad I cleaned up the breakfast dishes before taking these photos.

photo

Xmas decor from Norway,  given to us by my darling Swedish Mother-in-law.

photo

In-laws are "Nor-Swedes" and have sent us many of these festive decorations to remember them by during the holidays.

photo

My precious Sydney Rose, 8 months and the real star of this post.  Photo taken earlier today after visiting Santa.

photo

Nostalgia and a wintery scene painted by eldest daughter when she was a young teen.  A creek of frigid, snow melt somewhere in her beloved mountains of Lake Tahoe.

That's pretty much my day in the mountains, amusing myself with silly thoughts, a little photo display of my surroundings and a visit to Santa.  Grand kids are playing happily in the background, staying warm and cozy in Gramma's cabin.  It is still snowing steadily outside, ensuring a very, very white Christmas to come.  And lots more shoveling, plowing, de-icing and cold noses.

Here's to continued holiday cheer, rosie cheeks, candy canes, warmth and spiked egg nog.

Great Saint Nick!  It's Happy Hour!!!

"Jingle bells,
Santa smells,
Christmas is on the way!"
Oh my goodness! What a beautiful photo essay, and your words are just the right touch to the visual wonder. Thank you....xox
Gorgeous and very beautifully photos. I love the ice cycles.. I hope you are staying warm and cozy inside. I want to be there in the cabinet in the mountains with you..boohoo..
It is raining and freezing here in Missouri, Calling for ice storm and then snow on top of that.
Very enjoyable post.. Loved it.. And Thank you
A little envy of those digs going on over here, Cathy. Silly, fun post and I enjoyed every bit of it :)
such a beautiful post Cathy, but I'm not surprised at all, this is very much you--beauty, heart and love. have a wonderful Christmas season with your extended beautiful family. xo
I for one think that Christ would have loved the i-phone.
I know I loved the icycles and the photos. Thank god it's Happy Hour!
Beautiful just beautiful! I have been watching the mountains get darker and darker all day. Watch out for those icicles they look dangerous :) Your home looks warm and comforting. Lucky grand-babies
Beautiful post and incredible photos! We spend Christmas in summer-time, with average temperatures of 30°C, covering from the hot sun and needing air conditioning. Your photos are FANTASTIC; thanks for sharing them.
Kisses,
Marcela
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful: a picture book Christmas. I am jealous of the snow; God, I miss the Bay.

Wonderful, Cathy.

Robin - Thanks, darlin' and you're so welcome!

Fireeyes24 - Oooo, freezing rain is no fun at all! Then to have it snow on top of it is so scary and skiddy on the road! Be so careful and thanks for your sweet comment!

Smithery - Thanks much and glad you enjoyed. What's to envy about the endless snow and shoveling?!?

Barry - You humble me. Thanks for your sweet, flattering comment.

Trilogy - YOU are SO right! JC would have definitely loved the iPhone! Can you imagine the "aps" He would download!?!

Lunchlady 2 - You must be up here somewhere as well! I recall you are on the North side off 80? Thanks for your comment.

Marcela - Thanks for such a lovely comment! Can't imagine Christmas in such heat, though I once spent Christmas in Hawaii! What a kick to see dolphin scuptures with Christmas lights and Santa hats!

Thoth - You miss the snow?!? Got an easy solution for that! What's holding you back from coming up to the Bay?! Did I mention I have extra shovels? And, thanks much for your great comment!
Ah, a Cathy Christmas... with Tiger on her TV. I ignore the news. What is news about men and women sleeping together? That is not news, why do they put it on? Because they love to destroy people, condemn them and manipulate those who follow them. There are no gods here, just people and a few prophets who only enlightened people hear.

I love your Christmas images, the creche, the Icicles, the baby, the trees and mountains... idylic. God bless
Your photo essay is wonderfully wintery. Your real star is precious. ~R~
Beautiful pictures and I echo Chuck, your real star is adorable! Hope she had fun visiting Santa.
Ok, let's talk food...and drinks ; )
What a beautiful child! Now there is a reason to do the traditions and customs of the seasons.

R.
Your pictures almost make me wish I was still living in the northeast. Now, if there was a Syndney Rose there to lure me back, nothing could stop me. Beautiful child. Beautiful pictures. Beautiful you!
R
Your snow is beautiful!!
Your home is warm and welcoming!
Little Sydney Rose is precious!
Your daughter is a prodigy
Your life is fine! Thanks for sharing it.

(We have days and days of rain. This storm is huge and wet.)
Oh man. The perfect post, Cathy. This looks soooo much like the place we had in Durango, snow and all. I always found the big snowfalls very cozy and the quiet it causes is so very peaceful, but you know what I found the coolest?

Early in the morning, the sun would reflect off the snow gathered on the massive pines that lined both sides of the dirt road as I made my way to the highway. The sparkling looked like thousands of Christmas trees lining the road.

Sidney rose is adorable and is indeed a star.

What a wonderful place to spend the holidays and I hope yours are filled with warmth and wonder.

BTW - you have a fox in your mirror.
Professor - You are so right! I've turned off the news and am happily watching the Christmas specials and movies of the season. No Xmas Tigers there!

Chuck - Thanks for indulging me!

Ladyfarmerjed - Hah! Funny you should mention food and drink! Have a Foody Tuesday post all ready for you that fits the bill! Thx!

Nick - Right on!

Donna - Thanks much! You are so sweet! xo

Zumzlicious - Ah, such sweet poetry! You honor me with your kind words. The rain can be such a pain when getting around, but it is vital for drought restrictons. And all this snow will melt and help the cause as well!

Boomer Bob - What a beautiful comment, sentiments and the awesome Christmas visual you shared! Suhweeet! You have a heart of gold (but don't buy any!) and I love your comment so much! Oh...and that pesky fox finds her way inside during these crazy white outs! Thanks! xo
Cathy -- The icicles are dramatic, but you really should insulate your attic. You could have some serious ice dam problems. Get a second opinion from a professional. Great photo essay.
that's just about the best icicle display I've ever seen! And that stove sure looks cozy. Is the hot chocolate ready yet? Or better yet, how about some hot buttered rum?
Gorgeous photos! And DARLING Sydney. And I cannot believe your daughter did that painting...and when she was a teenager!

You just made my season bright!
Oh wow, I feel all Christmasy and stuff. :)

Ohsheepdog - You are right about the weight and girth of the icicles and that they can really pull on the roof. We have a fairly new 40 year composite roof so hoping it will hold against the weight of the icicle columns! In the spring we plan to put the electrical wire edging on the edge of the roof to melt the snow and ice before it forms these natural ice menaces. I will miss the icicle art but know that's the way to save sections of our roof.

Procopius - Hot chocolate is a staple around here. Not the hot buttered rum, but a fairly substantial store of various alcoholic beverages and mixers for all occasions!

Outside Myself - Thanks so much! All 3 daughters are very creative and artistic and can draw and paint rather well. Didn't get that from me, though it runs on both sides of the family. I got the muscial gift instead and can barely draw a clever stick man!

Sweetfeet - Me too! It's contagious!

Josh - OK, thanks for the tip!
Awwwwwww this is lovely and I am green with envy, sort of! I'd like to visit, and playwith the kids and enjoy the fire but then fly home to Florida for the rest of the winter!

Those icicles are amazing - and dangerous when they fall! Enjoy the beauty but watch where you're standing :-0
Those icicles were amazing, although I got cold reading this and looking at the pictures. And Sydney is so beautiful! I can't imagine a more loving place...not because of the icicles or the pictures...but YOU...my go to person who always makes me feel like I'm home for the holidays, no matter the season.
Wow. Those are some serious icicles!
Kellylark - Didn't realize you lived in Florida! Well, you don't need to be green with envy over shoveling snow! Yes, we stand clear when the icicles drop in sheets of daggers to the ground, like frozen dead weight! Some I knocked down already and some have fallen to their snowy graves.

Mary - Very sweet comment for the little hell raiser I now know you once were as a child! Hah! You're still a hell raisin' woman and that's one of the traits I love most about cha!

Gwendolyn - Serious icicles indeed! Had fun knocking a bunch of them down hours after I took the photos! Seems a bit sacriligeous but need to save the roof!
Oh, Cathy. You just can't stop! Thank god!

I love this piece. I feel like I just walked into a gingerbread house. Love your pictures of icicles and snow covered things -- like frosting all around you. And your wood burning (pellet) stove and inviting dining table. And your decorations with care. You ARE coziness personified. I want to be your grandchild. Pretty please?
Great pics of the ice.
I grew up in florida, where we made sand castles for Christmas,
snow was just like this thing that only existed in pictures,
I always wanted a white Christmas when I was a kid.
now that I have to shovel it... feelings are mixed.
But you have an awesome Christmas set up in your place.
So, Merry Christmas and on August 23rd don't forget to celebrate PADFUL DAY.
A winter wonderland, Cathy, and you have made it so cozy.

Have a blessed Christmas.

Monte

Yes, I am very late but a bit preoccupied lately as you know.
Thanks so much for sharing not only the icy beauty just outside your cosy cabin but the wonders within! I am referring to Sydney Rose, the most beauteous of little baby girls anywhere. Seriously cute!

Merry Christmas to all of you in the high altitudes, may your snowfall be deep but light and the sunshine clear and bright! Have fun.
