All I can think of is ice cream lately.
"The origins of ice cream can be traced back before the 4th century BC."
(I Googled the History of Ice Cream for that)
I can go for months without it but now the craving has gotten hold of me.
I want chocolate and vanilla combo softie cones. (half and half)
I wade through a crowded supermarket parking lot to go get ice cream at all hours of the night.
It must be all natural, French Vanilla in that moment.
The bottle, a very large one of Baileys, was waiting to be poured over the silken vanilla balls of pure delight.
That was last night.
It was pretty hot long into the evening.
There will likely be a repeat performance tonight. More Baileys; bigger dish of ice cream.
It's several degrees hotter today.
When you're used to natural air conditioning surrounding you most of the time, it is less tolerable to endure the heat.
All channels point to a very hot week coming up, no marine layer till next Monday, therefore no cool down for some time.
Rainbow sherbet for the grand kids. They think it's ice cream and a really big treat. If they understood it was healthier and contained less sugar, they'd want real ice cream instead.
They like to eat ice cream and popsicles on the deck. They think it's an ice cream picnic.
That's so the sticky drippy mess stays out of the house. Fooled 'em.
There is always chocolate syrup in the fridge for these times of increased heat waves.
The hotter it is, the more ice cream and chocoloate syrup.
I may have developed a weather related addiction to ice cream.
Can't seem to get it off of my mind lately.
When I was a little kid, going out for ice cream was just a weekly treat and a special family outing.
Dad was a sucker for softie cones, too. He always had ice cream in the freezer but we all didn't get to have it as much as he did.
He waited for us to all go to bed, I think.
He also hoarded chocolate candy in his underwear drawer and got real made at me for finding that out.
Dad's sugar tooth was passed on to us, no doubt.
I sometimes (pretend to) sneak a second helping of ice cream at night time after everyone else is in bed or busy on the computer.
Ice cream, eaten alone, slowly stirring it around the bowl and watching the patterns develop, is mesmerizing to see.
Then, when you put it into your mouth, you can feel and taste the pattern you just made. You want to repeat it over and over till it's all gone.
When your dish is empty, don't you just want to get some more?
"Ice cream!" "Ice cream!" "We all scream for ice cream!"
You said it as a kid. I said it. Most of us did, I know. I still do.
If hubby won't go out after dinner to get ice cream, I won't have a second glass of wine with dinner, just so I can go get some without risking a DUI.
Where I live, you have to drive to the store. It's only five minutes away by car. And we live up a very steep hill so walking there is not an option.
Especially in the dark.
Today is another ice cream day. Heard it on the news and weather.
Instead of planning what we're having for dinner, I am plotting how soon I should have dessert.
Afternoon ice cream delight would be so cool and unplanned.
It's just up in the fridge.
I was planning to be good and just snack on Bing cherries and grapes.
It's too hot to eat a banana.
Maybe I'll just tune in to the weather station and see hot it is.
I can see the outdoor thermometer from my kitchen window.
It says it's 87 degrees in the shade!
All the ice melted in my iced tea in the last half hour.
Probably because I have been typing a lot and not drinking my tea.
I can reach the fridge in two steps from the sink by turning to my right.
Or, I could take a nap with a fan nearby and ignore temptation.
Or not.
It's seriously much hotter than those meteorologists predicted for today.
In my next lifetime, I am going to become a meteorologist. They are never wrong and get paid even if they are. They get paid a lot.
They predicted it would be ice cream weather this week and it is.
The ice cream section at the supermarket is proof that the weather report was right.
So happy I have a brand new container of vanilla ice cream in the freezer.
I don't have to drive back down to the store tonight.
I don't know about you, but really hot weather gets to me. Makes my brain tired. Makes me feel fuzzy and lazy eyed.
Fingers growing more heavy on the keys.
Time for ice cream!

A lovely, fun post, Cathy! I enjoyed you eating ice cream!
Thanks for all your great comments and indulging me some silly moments to reflect on ice cream cravings.
"It says it's 87 degrees in the shade!" - a cold wave where I live. We're in the grips of the dreaded July/August heat here, 112 today. Soon we'll be looking at 115-120. Hell, the ice cream maker probably wouldn't even work here.
GAWD!!!! Why did I move from California????
Thanks multo bene for all your great thoughts and enthusiasm for ice cream and steamy weather! Too much fun!
