Ice Cream Weather Report

Rate: 29 Flag

icecream

All I can think of is ice cream lately.

"The origins of ice cream can be traced back before the 4th century BC."

(I Googled the History of Ice Cream for that)

I can go for months without it but now the craving has gotten hold of me.

I want chocolate and vanilla combo softie cones.  (half and half)

I wade through a crowded supermarket parking lot to go get ice cream at all hours of the night.

It must be all natural, French Vanilla in that moment.

The bottle, a very large one of Baileys, was waiting to be poured over the silken vanilla balls of pure delight.

That was last night.

It was pretty hot long into the evening.

There will likely be a repeat performance tonight.  More Baileys; bigger dish of ice cream.

It's several degrees hotter today.

When you're used to natural air conditioning surrounding you most of the time, it is less tolerable to endure the heat.

All channels point to a very hot week coming up, no marine layer till next Monday, therefore no cool down for some time.

Rainbow sherbet for the grand kids.  They think it's ice cream and a really big treat.  If they understood it was healthier and contained less sugar, they'd want real ice cream instead.

They like to eat ice cream and popsicles on the deck.  They think it's an ice cream picnic.

That's so the sticky drippy mess stays out of the house.  Fooled 'em.

There is always chocolate syrup in the fridge for these times of increased heat waves.

The hotter it is, the more ice cream and chocoloate syrup.

I may have developed a weather related addiction to ice cream.

Can't seem to get it off of my mind lately.

When I was a little kid, going out for ice cream was just a weekly treat and a special family outing.

Dad was a sucker for softie cones, too.  He always had ice cream in the freezer but we all didn't get to have it as much as he did.

He waited for us to all go to bed, I think.

He also hoarded chocolate candy in his underwear drawer and got real made at me for finding that out.

Dad's sugar tooth was passed on to us, no doubt.

I sometimes (pretend to) sneak a second helping of ice cream at night time after everyone else is in bed or busy on the computer.

Ice cream, eaten alone, slowly stirring it around the bowl and watching the patterns develop, is mesmerizing to see.

Then, when you put it into your mouth, you can feel and taste the pattern you just made.  You want to repeat it over and over till it's all gone.

When your dish is empty, don't you just want to get some more?

"Ice cream!"  "Ice cream!"  "We all scream for ice cream!"

You said it as a kid.  I said it.  Most of us did, I know.  I still do.

If hubby won't go out after dinner to get ice cream, I won't have a second glass of wine with dinner, just so I can go get some without risking a DUI.

Where I live, you have to drive to the store.  It's only five minutes away by car.  And we live up a very steep hill so walking there is not an option.

Especially in the dark.

Today is another ice cream day.  Heard it on the news and weather.

Instead of planning what we're having for dinner, I am plotting how soon I should have dessert.

Afternoon ice cream delight would be so cool and unplanned.

It's just up in the fridge.

I was planning to be good and just snack on Bing cherries and grapes.

It's too hot to eat a banana.

Maybe I'll just tune in to the weather station and see hot it is.

I can see the outdoor thermometer from my kitchen window.

It says it's 87 degrees in the shade!

All the ice melted in my iced tea in the last half hour.

Probably because I have been typing a lot and not drinking my tea.

I can reach the fridge in two steps from the sink by turning to my right.

Or, I could take a nap with a fan nearby and ignore temptation.

Or not.

It's seriously much hotter than those meteorologists predicted for today.

In my next lifetime, I am going to become a meteorologist.  They are never wrong and get paid even if they are.  They get paid a lot.

They predicted it would be ice cream weather this week and it is.

The ice cream section at the supermarket is proof that the weather report was right.

So happy I have a brand new container of vanilla ice cream in the freezer.

I don't have to drive back down to the store tonight.

I don't know about you, but really hot weather gets to me.  Makes my brain tired.  Makes me feel fuzzy and lazy eyed.

Fingers growing more heavy on the keys.

Time for ice cream!

I love that ice cream cone image jumping off of the screen! Googled "Ice Cream Cones" for that!
Maple walnut tonight!
I would give up alot of other things for ice cream...Love reading your mind! I have a feeling we would be great friends and polish off countless gallons if we lived nearby. Thanks Cathy! :}
I have a weather related addiction to ice cream, any weather, any time the more chocolate syrup the better. I love your graphics.
Will you just stop! Now I have to drive to the store and get Ice Cream! Vanilla with hot fudge and whip cream and cherry on top. R-
This made me hungry for pistachio, don't know why, jus' sayin. Fun post. Thanks for sharing. R
Ice cream is my deepest darkest secret lover. If I have it in the house it keeps calling my name until it's all gone.....I need to run to the store :)
it's black raspberry kind of evening.
I've been cooling off on watermelon, Cathy, because I know how I can become a prisoner to ice cream if I have it around. I know what you're saying though - it's one of the most delicious sins. ~R~
If I don't respond to your comments right away, it's because my mouth is full!
ROFL and screaming for ice cream! Now you've done it! it is my most vulnerable comfort food!
The ice cream cone was invented at the St. Louis Worlds Fair around the turn of the century. Think I'll have one. 97 degrees today. Great post. rr
Arrrgh.... And I won't get off work until nine o'clock. What a week for me to pick to get my apartment cleaned and ready for the installation of new carpets!

I can't think of anything but frozen goodness!
ICE CREAM!!!

It been sticky ucky hot since early June, late May here. So, been hiding out in front of the air conditioning vent going..."COOL ME!!" :D

Rated and Tink Picked!!!
It's winter here in my part of the world and I'm feeling pretty smug right about now because I can say, NO THANKS! NONE FOR ME!

A lovely, fun post, Cathy! I enjoyed you eating ice cream!
I'm gunna need a bigger freezer. It just keeps getting hotter.

Thanks for all your great comments and indulging me some silly moments to reflect on ice cream cravings.
Home-made strawberry custard ice cream. My wife and I used to make it every weekend (ice cream that is) when we lived in Costa Mesa. We'd make a gallon and keep it in the freezer to snack on during the week.

"It says it's 87 degrees in the shade!" - a cold wave where I live. We're in the grips of the dreaded July/August heat here, 112 today. Soon we'll be looking at 115-120. Hell, the ice cream maker probably wouldn't even work here.

GAWD!!!! Why did I move from California????
When I was a kid I always looked forwards to summer because we would hand crank our ice cream.. THOSE were the good old days.
We only buy small containers at a time. (My husband is an addict). I usually sneek to town when he is at work. (Not that I need to sneek or anything) Maybe he isn't the addict. :-) R
Cathy, this could and should be poetry! It's yummy!
Ice cream is kryptonite for me, too. I haven't had any in a long while. You've made me want some and there's none in the house. Help!
Thanks for activating my sweet tooth. I've substituted the italian gelato for the ice cream, but now and again yield to temptation for the real thing. Used to like a bottle of Bailey's now and again as well, but didn't bother with ice cream.
Rated for "silken vanilla balls" lathered with Bailey's. They don't even have to be made of ice cream. (Did I just say that? Why, yes, I did...!) (See what happens when you're lactose intolerant?) ;)
This makes me just kinda want to roll around in a giant tub of Chunky Monkey and eat myself cool. Vanilla just isn't cool enough for me. Loved visualizing the snake's breath hot weather. Snake's breath? It has been ice cream hot here since mid-May and no let up in sight.
You HAD to get me started, didn't you???
i'm having a brain freeze just reading this. amazing graphics you have going on here...good grief, I still don't know how to do a link yet.
It's always time for ice cream!
A perfect post for a hot night. I want mint with a ribbon of dark chocolate running through it. I have a 24-hour grocery store half a mile of level ground away.
Bailey's rocks tonite. Too full after Cannoli and Italian food for dinner.
Thanks multo bene for all your great thoughts and enthusiasm for ice cream and steamy weather! Too much fun!
Hey, you've outgrown me when it comes to computer technology! Love the ice cream disappearing act thingy. Memories flood of going to Baskin Robbins with Dad on Greenwich Avenue. Chocolate on the bottom, chocolate mint chip on the top. I'll never forget one time, I was probably around 10, I dropped my scoop on the floor of the store. They replaced it but asked Dad for another 13 cents. He literally didn't have it and sheepishly stood there with his pockets hanging out with a big smile on his face. Surrounding him were his litter of children. They gave him a pass on that .13 and a priceless memory for me.
Mary - Love your ice cream story! It sounds so familiar but doubt I was there at the time. It mirrors the time, also at Baskin Robins in Larkspur, where Julie dropped her scoop just after she walked out of the store and began crying. She was perhaps 8 then. The kindly manager refilled her cone with an understanding smile and no remuneration was expected. My admiration for this store grew exponentially after that. Repaid in smiles from those big brown eyes.
Now you've made me want to go to Dairy Queen! Yum. Hmm, I think there's some Haag N Das in the fridge...
Nothing in the world beats Baskin and Robbins Rocky Road! Oh yeah....now we're talkin! Fun post Cathy....I'm drooling!
God bless whoever invented ice cream!
You gotta stop with the ice cream. Seriously. Or I'll have to find an Ice Cream Cravers Anonymous group or something. I am absolutely unable to resist ice cream. I am powerless in the presence of ice cream. You...are NOT helping! (I'm teasing, you, of course!)
It's July. Gotta have Death by Chocolate!
