Springing into March

Rate: 7 Flag
                   He turned 15

My sweet birthday boy
At 4, he wanted to take the long cut home (“I don’t like short cuts”)
God gave me a bookmonster when I prayed for a bookworm.
Then Crockett Johnson’s Purple Crayon. Now Thomas Pynchon’s Gravity’s Rainbow?

In Saratoga, California, Spring is in the air
Coming to many lungs near you: Singulair

                      Barren

Pray, who Madoff with your leaves from last year and the years before?

Powder pink cherry blossoms on a crisp blue sky
“But, wait, where are the smells?” asks the India-returned.
“Why doesn't America smell? It’s sterile.”

Little wonder that the Willow weeps.                                                                                      The silence here is deafening.                                                                                                        No streetlights either. It can drive you senile.

In college she coins new expressions for caustic Google chat.
“Please. Refrain, Mother. You seem to have a tendency to express my sentiments as very extreme versions of what they really are. As a fellow writer, I understand that you thrive on hyperbole. But, Reel it in, Woman!”

          Road much traveled

This valley is for engineers. And their engineering spouses who offer precious tips here.

                          Lavender stalks

No spring in anyone's step this Spring
But pinch and crush the lavender of 2009.
Hope springs anew. May be the stalks will surge again?

Ah, your sweet birthday boy is now nearly a man? Is it true he's reading Pynchon? You must be at fault!
I, too, love photos with commentary. These are lovely, some; sad, others. You're still finding your voice, and I'm glad we're here to hear it.
Beautiful! Sweet birthday boy is a charmer!
How so true : "Why doesn't America smell? It's sterile!". This was the fiorst thing I noticed when I arrived in this coutnry: roses, violets exude no fragrance; vegetables have no taste or barely (if they' re organic)... I felt like I had lost a sense. For someone like me who needs thick glasses and who has therefore compensated poor vision with a strong noise, the absence of smells is torture.
Lovely, evocative. I've never heard of a residential neighbourhood with no streetlights!
To Joe River Reid:
My 15-year-old went and got Pynchon, began reading it and put it away so he can begin again in mid-June. Apparently, reading has to happen without interruption. Between school, music and sports, where's the time?
Emma Peel:

My husband wants me to let you know that Saratoga is missing street lights - AND sidewalks! It's quite dangerous to drive around here at night.
