Earlier this afternoon, I read the following comment, posted by "Eric," on the KBTX website in Bryan, Texas:

To George: I pay more in taxes each year than you earn. Therefore, I feel that I have a right to say my piece. While I am working harder to support those on welfare, I am getting raped by the libs & democrats. I respect your right to say how you feel, but I do not care. I want my family and friends to be able to lead their life without government intervention. And no, I do not want people with pre-existing conditions allowed on my insurance. Life is not fair & it will drive up my rates. As for Chet Edwards, he and his staff are a bunch of self seving liberals who only concern is there agenda. You say all I do is complain. No-I write letters to my Congressman, I protest, and I donate money to the candidate of my choice. I will give you my personal e-mail so you can come by my business to mouth off personally!!!
For someone who has a pre-existing medical condition, I find this kind of comment very offensive.
Is this the new proclamation of the American individualism?
Is this something we, as Americans, should be proud of?
I guess the gesture of trying to help each other is going out the window quicker than I thought.
Time for bringing back the single-payer option on the table?
Final note: I am not George!

I just wonder if this rugged individualist is willing to give his tax-deduction for his employer-based health insurance.

You folks need a decent public/universal health care option so badly, disconnected from guys like this & their greed. I sure hope you get one sometime.
Even if we assume that he (Eric) pays say $60,000 in income taxes (or more) and has several employees under him (before income tax should be about $200,000), I find it very surprising that such person would not have any compassion (as you indicated) for people around him. However, given the recent comment by Whole Foods CEO John Mackey who is basically saying “I take care of myself and my employees, but I do not care what happens outside my business,” I may have to revisit my preconceive notion on this topic.
Like my grandmama always told me: "You can not reason with an ignorant man."
