Bio
I am NOT a self-proclaimed Renaissance Woman in any sense; more a bookie with a passion for art, politics, children and spirituality ~ I adore my daughter who just turned 7. Daily it is affirmed she is the teacher and I am the student ~ Eccentricities include a love of reading about neuroscience for fun, a hen named Lollipop who escorts me to my car every morning (not kidding), and am damn excited polar fleece is always in style in the Pacific Northwest ~ Otherwise, I like my green tea and on the side of my cream, love shabby chic fashion, and am in awe of everything outdoors ~ I believe most policy answers are simple yet hard. The "status quo" has not been working for some time, which is evident in the state of our union ~ I consider myself a fiscally conservative Democrat (oxymoron?). I respect minority opinion and the absolute necessity it brings to the governing process. I loathe fear mongering and complaining for the sake of complaining which has become standard for political dissent ~ I subscribe to all and no religion at once. In other words, I believe they all point in the same direction. I utilize the principles and/or rituals while ignoring any law making. Satyagraha is the philosophy I align closest with ~ Rule 62 always applies ~ All in all, I cherish life! ---------------------------------------------------------

The Big "O" Vibrations

Rate: 8 Flag

I Am Still Vibrating…

The Rook (my seven-year-old daughter) is engrossed in a website involving puppies or ponies or something age-appropriate so I am going to catch some low-grade shut-eye.  As I edge toward the fuzzy state of in-between consciousness, a roaring crowd comes flowing out of my TV which I have just turned down.  I open one eye, and there are so many dots of colors on the screen I sit up.  It’s a BIG screen and there are A LOT of dots...

OHHH!  Madame O!

I enjoy the occasional Oprah show, but what is all this hoopla?  My eyes are focusing now and my body senses an overwhelming amount of…energy.  The Black Eyed Peas leap up on the stage after shaking hands with the crowd (formerly known as dots); they look as hip and stylish as ever.

Is Taboo married?  That’s right,  I am.  Oops, never mind.

“I gotta feeling…” will.i.am belts it out above the rest of his gang in the opening lines; I always love his amazing voice.

Look, that one girl, she is dancing alone, and no one else is…moving.  Weird.

That girl is brave!

Then, the whole crowd, section by section, starts to join in on the ruckus.

Hands are flying, colors are moving, and the vibration is rising!  Oprah's face registers a look of surprising excitement.

The Rook leaves her laptop and I jump off the couch.   We are dancing together with both hands clasped,  jumping up and down, arms flailing rhythmically.  We look like a couple of monkeys who have lost our bananas but are still happy about it.

Every imaginable color of hand is waving in the air.  A human sea of synchronicity is unfolding like magic.  The Peas belt out, “Mazel tov!”  Currents of electricity run vertically through me, up and down, up and down, over and over.  I am astounded - it is love in action.

I can’t remember my President’s name, my aches and pains from a day in the yard are unnoticeable, and worries about whether we will flood this year are no where on my mental radar.

I feel *joy*.  I am present.  I AM.

Oprah’s 24th Season Opener was the largest flash-mob to occur in history, all choreographed to the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling”.  Twenty-one thousand fans lined Chicago’s Magnificent Mile for the kick-off party, and everyone, but Oprah, was in on the dance setup-up.

The Peas mixed-up their smash hit and renamed it, "Oprah Feelin'", just for her party.  Ms. Winfrey has some pull.

Choreographer Ashley Wallen, Director Michael Gracey, and a small team of dancers taught the crowd the choreographed moves before the show started.    Fans were notified via Facebook to come to a warehouse for a special wristband to gain preferential access to the show, and learn the dance for the following day's taping.

The results are electric; the harmony is beyond words.  Don’t miss out:

(UPDATE:  go to www.oprah.com to watch this video - it is worth it!  It is better quality than the one which was posted on You Tube anyway.)

Kate: I have learned that I am now the old fart I never wanted to be when I was in college! I have no clue what you are writing about. The only thing I recognized was Oprah and a great southern food - black eyed peas! Forgive me for being so out of touch!!!!!

(blacked eyed peas are great with jalapeno cornbread!!!)

(smile ....)

Interesting... we can't as a country agree on much... but we can get 21,000 people together for a flash mob dance :)
@ws - don't worry about the writing...just watch the video!!! :)
Somehow before I ever read this, I knew it was going to be about Oprah and not that other Big O!
Cute image of you and the kid dancing in the living room. (presuming thats who the Rook is....)
@tim - yes, my daughter is the "rook" - last name "bishop" - husband the "knight". My little play on the surname; helps keep a level of privacy. I will make it more clear in each piece though. Thanks for noting that!
WOW! I am so glad I came to your blog today and saw this ELECTRIC video. I was smiling with amazement right along with Oprah. I needed that today. Thanks!
RATED!
@unbreakable - that's exactly how I felt! After a week of anxiety over HCR and the on the eve of 9/11 - I was so rejuvenated by this video!!!

Ain't love grand?
What a party! I felt it! Oprah is always a good time. Is anyone watching me type this? I watch channels, not shows. I watch programs on History International, Discovery Channel.. BUT -- sometimes Oprah appears when I am not expecting her to, and I the channel stays put somehow.
She definitely deserves all her titles...

"Madame, Reverend, Senator..."

She is a force for sure.
Found your post because of your comment to Bob Eckstein - wanted to say welcome! The video keeps cutting in and out but I really enjoyed the three minutes I could see. I feel genuinely happy for the girl with the blue shirt and long dark hair - she's at the front celebrating as they start singing, and the camera keeps cutting back to her. Don't know if she has connections or she's simply charismatic, but she radiates excitement and joy. Maybe this is her Courtney Cox onstage with Bruce Springstein moment. (Remember that? Or am I really old?)
I DO remember that!!! Bummer...I have no idea why the video quality is lousy. If you can, go to Oprah.com - it is on there. It is SO awesome to see 21K people moving in harmony!
Love your bio and I have plenty of friends who live in Chi town who complained about what an inconvenience O's show was to the city. Some people just don't get it! Glad you could dance. I would have too, if I hadn't been somewhere else.
