Casting the Movie of Your Life - An Open Casting Call

Rate: 22 Flag

If I ever had to cast a movie of my own life, here's how it would go:

james_garner

James Garner as my dad.  A young James Garner.

dkformal

A young Deborah Kerr as my mother when she was younger.

My sister would say Doris Roberts for my mother as she is older.

01roberts

But I would probably say Ellyn Burstyn

5307777

Not just any Ellyn Burstyn, the one on Big Love

A cleanshaven Dan Abrams to play my brother

danphoto-sm

with really natty clothes.

6a00e398b8ecae000301101805cc3a860f-320pi

Melissa Sue Anderson would be a ringer for sister #1 when she was younger.

Jennifer Grey to play sister #2.

jennifergrey

No, not that Jennifer Grey.

jen_grey

And not this one, either.

ferrisbueller3

This one.  Shauna.  The one who was Ferris' sister and got smart with Charlie Sheen.

(taking a little John Hughes break here with one of my favorite scenes in the movie)

Sister #3 is easy, Melissa Gilbert.

430px-MelissaGilbertYoung

Half-Pint was a ringer.  Convenient two of my sisters  come from Little House.

Baby sister, sister #4,  is also easy.

marlee_l

Marlee Matlin in Children of a Lesser God

My paternal grandfather is a combination of

willie-nelson-1a

and

3492952

Willie Nelson and Justin Wilson.  Hoo-eeeee.  Pass the Tabasco.

Grandma would be a young Bea Arthur.

BeatriceArthur

For my maternal grandfather?  Carroll O'Connor.

carrolloconnor-april32000

The one from Return to Me, not All in the Family.

My maternal grandmother?

16408-24481

Jean Stapleton, but not the one from All in the Family.  Add glasses.

Meryl Streep is a ringer for my Aunt Esther.

Meryl_Streep - 01 - The_Devil_Wears_Prada

There's a lot of family resemblance there.

Assorted relatives.  A sister-in-law.

susan-sarandon-050308-100446

Susan Sarandon.

A daughter-in-law

diane keaton glasses

Diane Keaton.  Without the glasses.

A couple of people from my past

ralph-fiennes

Ralph Fiennes.

 Daryl Hall and John Oates.

halloates

Yes.  Both of them.  Not at the same time.

Uh-huh.

roger-moore

That Roger Moore.

I have lots of gorgeous grandchildren.  One of them is a ringer for

original

Josh Hartnett.  Gotta shave his head now, though, since he's in the Army.

Another is a ringer for

reese-witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon.  Legally Blonde vintage.  Smart and social.

My other granddaughter

1172778542272_2Lisa-Kudrow-mif

Lisa Kudrow.  But not the one on Friends.

This was one of my grandsons when he was younger.

sangster

Thomas Sangster, the endearing little boy in Love Actually.

In recent years he looked a little more like

wimbledon-greats-1980-bjorn-borg-2_957128-1

a young Bjorn Borg, especially when he had long hair.

Nick Simmons has his brother down pat.

nicksimmons

I have another grandson who easily could have been, when younger,

Zombie Kid Likes Turtles.   Yeah.

I'd have to think about the rest of them.  The above are easy.

My husband would have to be

3323375_patrick_stewart_headshot

the great Patrick Stewart.

and to play my adorable dog, Sweetie

billytoyshow1

champion Billy the Havanese.

And, finally . . . .me.

miracle-of-breakfast

the Toothpaste for Dinner guy.

But hey, probably since most of these people aren't available, we'd just have to go with the originals.

That's my life, cast as a movie, in a nutshell.  How would you cast yours?

Finally, taxes done. . .can breathe again. I'm curious to know, who would you cast in a movie of your own life?
Great casting job. Instead of casting people as they are, I will cast them as I want them to be and have two TV characters--Cliff Huxtable and Pee-wee Herman--play every character in my life.
Great idea, Kathy! My father would be Bela Lugosi. My mother would be Ingrid Bergman. My daughters, who inherited my looks, would be Scarlett Johansson and Angelina Jolie. I would be Larry David, and my wife would be... who played th female lead in "The Taming of the Shrew?"
R
You have really thought about this?!? My family is way, way too big, like Big ass Catholic family, no birth control big!!! Can't even get started on this project! And, it would bore the hell out of everyone. Maybe MTK will do it! Gramma, out!
Sean Connery would play me!

Jimmy Stewart would play my daddy.

Maureen O'Hara would play my mother.

I'm still holding casting calls for my wife. I need to get this one right, you know.
Kathy, I like this. I think my life would be cast with character actors rather than stars. Charles Lane would be my grandfather, William Schallert would be my dad. Holland Taylor would be my mother, and on and on and on.
This was great. Your family all are good looking. Picture the Addams Family and you have my family down pat!
wow - you really HAVE given alot of thought to this. As I am not the product of humans (whoops, gave it away - that's next week's post!) I'd have to go in a different direction. Hmm...
That was a fun post! I have to think about it, but I do love the young Bea Arthur!
What a good looking family, in a made for TV sort of way.
Heh, for sure with the photos it will bump BBE's post and the Pit Bulls.
wonderfully fun post and so creative! off the top of my head i would say the cast from the old movie,"Life with Father". And, my dad is a dead ringer, in character, for the humorous Bill Cosby.
rated:)
Crap... I'd much rather order my family up from Central Casting...
Ahh... Justin Wilson. It was good for me to see him. Hard to believe he been gone dese nine or eight years, yes. Merci beaucoup for the memory, chere. He smilin in heaven, I gar-on-tee!
Kathy, thanks for posting this. This is great, especially the cartoon. The "miracle of breakfast" is a familiar concept here.

Casting:
my mother: a very young Julie Andrews, as a brunette
my grandmother: Lidia from Lidia's Italy
my eldest sister: Mia Farrow
my middle sister: Jennifer Grey, pre-nose alteration
me: a younger Katie Holmes, from her Dawson's Creek days

Katie bears a striking resemblance to me. :)

Hope
Well, this is a matter of taste. I just love James Garner in all roles; I think you should switch the Husband and Father. In my opinion, Susan Sarandon is the best actress of all time. Meryl Streep was cool until she played the part of the singing-happy-for-no-reason.

All around, nice family.

Rated.
Kathy, I forgot to add this.

My love interest: John Cusack, from his High Fidelity role or just about any other role. He's adorable!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope
Awesome idea! Everyone, and I mean everyone in my life movie would be played by Sam Neil. It would be fantastic.
I appreciate all the comments and participation on this thread. A few quick responses while I have a minute:

Thoth, it's a young James Garner for my dad, because he died over thirty years ago in his forties of cancer. Didn't live long enough to be the old James Garner. Patrick Stewart is a pretty good choice for my husband; I wouldn't reverse them. Although, if the real James Garner were available, or heck, the real Patrick Stewart. . .

Hope, I'm with you on John Cusack, who could also probably play me.

Thanks to those of you who responded to this by private message, too. I appreciate that not everyone wanted their lists to be public, but still enjoyed the thread.

More later. Keep those cast lists coming.
This is GREAT! Just off the top of my head, Donald Sutherland is nearly a mirror image of Hubby (without the beard) Hehehe. I'll have to look for the rest.

Rated!
Awesome! As the daughter of Lucille Ball and Gary Cooper I really enjoyed! By the way, my Dad grew up in Ledgends of the Fall, and my dog is definitely Marley!
Okay, now some individual responses:

Caroline, Cliff and PeeWee would be fascinating.

john, gotcha. Larry David makes some sense. The Shrew?

Cathy, big family indeed. My dad was one of ten. I'm oldest of six. I hear ya. Good call. Hard to do.

Harvey, amen on that last bit. Gotta get that right.

OEsheepdog, Holland Taylor could be a cool mom. Character actors rule.

scanner, this is just who I'd have play my family. . .because they're actors, and have range. Addams Family also works.

Nikki, as I always suspected. Anxious to hear.
Gwendolyn, so would I. In fact, I think I did.

LuluandPhoebe, my paternal grandmother is difficult, also died young, early 50's, but young Bea Arthur could work. Would love to know yours.

Cap'n, can be made for TV. Some of those are Utah peeps.

Stellaa, don't count on it. Megan Fox is permanently entrenched.

Deb, if your dad was the funny Bill Cosby, lucky you.

surly, good plan. Maybe you can get some for 19.95.

CarolinaBlue50, Justin Wilson is much missed. My grandfather is the first person I knew who kept a gallon jug of Tabasco on his kitchen table, and Justin Wilson always channeled him. Mix him and Willie, and you have my late, and also much missed, Grandpa.

Hope, I worry about how much you're really starving, but like your choices. Interesting we both have sisters who are Jennifer Grey. Katie Holmes. . .okay!

Thoth, see my comments to you in another post above.

Andy, Sam Neill could be cool all around.
LadyMiko, lucky you! Donald Sutherland is the bomb.

Tiger, I could go for Lucille Ball and Gary Cooper as parents. Cool about your dad and Legends. Hope your dog has a happier ending than Marley.
Great fun, Kathy! I will have to give that one some thought. Great idea, tho. Glad you thought of it. I am not imaginative in that way, but this gives me some incentive, doesn't it?

Kathy, loved the fun post; and hilarious ending! Rated. Cheers! (Why do I see you wearing a nice pillbox hat or beret in your pic? I know you are not wearing one!)
Such imagination and hard work! Three are easy. My sis looks like Ellen Degeneres. And my older son looks just like John Cusack (with less hair). And his wife looks like Mariah Carey.
Monte, thanks as always. Let me know if you come up with any flashes of inspiration.

Reiko, neither a pillbox nor a beret. Truthfully I'm not much of a hat wearer, except on that odd occasion when it seems like a good idea, which really should be more often.

Lea, fun family, lucky you! Thanks.
