I had this in the hopper the day iamsurly posted her now famous post on bad hair (great minds), and held this back as a result. Since it's the weekend, it seems like a light and fluffy time to let it fly, no tiaras. Just lots of silly trendy (and some not-so-trendy) hairdos.

Starting out life with a full head of hair, aspiring to be a Gerber baby. Four generations.

Ringleted toddler with home-cut bangs. I've graduated to the Northern Tissue girl.
1960's. Barbie had a bubble cut, and Hayley Mills was serving up double trouble in the original Disney film version of "The Parent Trap." My mother added a headband, and voilà.

1972. I'm sure I didn't intend to be channeling Jan Brady here, since I didn't even like her (Marsha, Marsha, Marsha)--more likely Catherine Deneuve (below, in "Belle du Jour") or Jean Shrimpton. Oddly, the pics that survive of that hairstyle from the late '60's early 70's are all of, you guessed it, Jan Brady.
1979. Bette Midler's Thighs and Whispers was flying off the shelves, and I had my first of many unfortunate passport pictures taken. (Note to would-be forgers: This isn't my legal name or my signature anymore, so have at it, won't do you any good.)

Early 80's. The Carringtons on Dynasty were the hottest thing to watch on Wednesday night television, and I was rockin' that Linda Evans hair.
1991. Channeling Kathy Ireland, who was doing a lot of over-the-shoulder come-hither looks for SI.

Ditto 1992, Tahiti. Frederique van der Wal was also doing it for Victoria's Secret then, and still more Kathy Ireland.
1997, Princess Diana was still with us, and short hair was glamorous.
The one I'm dying to try, but haven't yet:

I said no tiaras, but I lied. Here's the tiara photoshopped pic that Will Someone Feed the Cat just sent me. Thanks, WSFTC:

The whole idolizing Kathy Ireland thing has me a little worried...

Cindy, if you're talking about the last photograph on the article, it's Phil Spector. If you're talking about another photo, you need to tell me which one.
surly, that was before Kathy Ireland was Kathy Ireland. I had to find pics that fit, but I was really more doing a Frederique van der Wal thing, and you can't find any of her pics that are fit to print. Plus, I thought the second Kathy Ireland pic sort of mirrored the pose. Or not. Maybe not. Never mind. The humor is there, but it's subtle.
I tried the feathered, David Cassidy look for a while. It didn't work on me. Since 1983, I've had it cut short and parted on the side, like Jon Hamm. Now, if only I was as handsome as Jon Hamm . . .
And post fluff whenever you want, Kathy; Lord knows I do!
Douglas and Harvey, thanks. Will post fluff and go for the Phil Spector look, sure.
Lesh, indeed.
Ellen, that 1992 photo was taken in Tahiti aboard a cruise ship, and was a standard set prop/background aboard that ship. It's difficult to tell from that photo, but that particular dress has some sequins on it--not a lot, mind you, but a few.
Love the tiara - very jealous!
rita, I have Chicago Irish nieces with that hairstyle, know the one. Thanks.
mamoore, I actually did the Carol Brady look at one time, but it was more the Katie Couric incarnation, flippy ends on a short cut. Fortunately, I can't find pictures.

Jess, right you are about Shaggy, and he wears the tiara better, too.
