Antiquing in Murfreesboro

Rate: 6 Flag

If you ever find yourself south of Nashville with time to kill, antiquing in Murfreesboro is just the ticket.

horseantique

For dreaming of circus ponies.

michaeljacksondoll

The timely collectible. (See Off the Wall, below.)

doll

Howdy Doody to you, too.

cowgirl

I could use one of these at the cottage.

ishouldhaveboughtitsign

Always true.

bearpurse

Speaking of buying it when I saw it. . . This bear is a must have, ready for anything.

zanegrey

Reminders of the racks of Zane Grey novels my grandfather had in his livingroom in my childhood.

minidolls

I can't imagine.  Party favors?

 singalongwithmitch

Early collective karaoke.  Follow the bouncing ball.

oldtv

Pretty sure our first TV looked a little like this.  Pre-MTV.  For singing along with Mitch.

floridakitsch

Florida kitsch, my favorite.

blacklawnornament

Not so politically correct these days.

hats

World War II hats and medals.  Who knew one of those officer's caps could fetch nearly $400?

desertrose

Franciscan Desert Rose.  What my mother wished my grandmother had.

dishes

Franciscan Apple.  My grandmother's dishes, which my mother passed down to a niece.  Sigh.

antiqueweddingdress

Someone's long ago and faraway dream.

writingdesk

Someone else's long ago dream.  Wondering about the letters penned there, the Great American Novels not written.

Bonus:  Best fall colors on our drive south from Wisconsin to Florida are in southern Tennessee near the Georgia border, from Murfreesboro south.

treesone

Near Nick-a-Jack Reservoir.

keepoffwall

Always a good idea.

moretrees

More just past peak.

treestheend

Off to Georgia.

This is what happens when I have too much time on my hands in the midst of another 2,000 mile roadtrip, this time between Nashville and Atlanta. Looks like I was about two weeks too late for the peak of fall colors on most of the drive, but the kitsch and treasures in Murfreesboro, as always, were amazing.
Kathy, you passed within two miles of my house, if you came down I-65. I live 25 miles north of Nashville at Exit 108, and I'm 50 miles from Murfreesboro. You should have honked.

Great pictures.
I believe I felt a presence move through the greater Nashville area. Howdy from Nashville!
If I'd known I was passing by so many Open Salon friends going through the greater Nashville area, we could have had a tweetup, er, I mean an OS meetup. I was at Opry Mills Thursday watching "This Is It," posted about it Friday, then went south to Atlanta for the weekend.
What a fun trip! I love the antiques and adjoining text, especially the cute bear. Thanks for sharing, Kathy!

So will I be seeing you on Antiques Roadshow with some hideous pot? I love antiquing, except now they're hip to the values.

I think I may have seen that Howdy Doody doll in my dreams.
or was it my nightmares?
What a sweet collection...

Murfreesboro is a charming little area.
I want that Franciscan Desert Rose collection. :)
You should have stopped by when you were going through Atlanta, we'd have had a visit. Next time, give us a shout!
