Awesome!!! Kind of looks similar to the same award show; say a month ago. Thanks Kathy! These were and are some great films; plus the actors/actresses are well deserving.
Rated.
Stanley Tucci makes me supremely happy, but my debilitating love for Jason Bourne makes me want to lean towards Matt Damon ...

::sigh::
Haven't see lots of these pictures...but happy to see your report. Thanks.
I still think expanding the Best Picture category to 10 nominees is a mistake, diluting the award. But we'll see. Without the expansion, I wonder if Avatar or District 9 would have gotten the nods they deserved.
Thanks for this. My freakish love for Sandra Bullock pretty much assures her of losing. But I will enjoy watching her applaud politely when Meryl wins. Is this Woody's first nomination? He's hilarious.
much as I adore and I mean ADORE Jeff Bridges (and believe this may be his time) and have my fingers crossed for him, I am sort of cheering for Jeremy Renner who blew me away in Hurt Locker. It may have been the writing and direction but I don't know. This kid is special..really special.

As for the rest, I predict a romping by Precious. I can't imagine any other film, performance or writing even coming close . I was surprised no nomination for Mariah. I think it's a setup in a way because Monique should have been nominated for Best Actress as well as Gabourey Sidibe. She'd have won, so I'm guessing they put one each into the two catagories. Why can't they give as many "bests" as are warranted? I've never understood the logic of that, sometimes there's more than one. And the catagories need updating. SORELY. you can't put a comedic performance against a dramatic one, the gravitas takes the cake every time.
I'm with Frank. Have only seen a few of these, but I will throw one helluva tantrum if Christopher Waltz doesn't win. And I don't care how tedious his acceptance speech may be. (r)
No huge surprises here, and I don't feel bad about "Nine," because...I didn't like it very much. It's such an apples and oranges thing, though, is "Precious" best because it's such a thoughtful take on really hard, complicated social issues, or is "Avatar" best because of the technology and visual impact. Good thing I don't vote.
As an aside, I'm perfectly happy to have scooped the AP by fourteen minutes and the LA Times by seven. Thank you to Mr. Phil Quink, my tenth grade typing teacher.
If you could post who won, that would be a real scoop.
Didn't Woody win for Kingpin? I know Bill Murray's combover did.
Larry: Mo'Nique (Penelope Cruz), Christopher Plummer (Christoph Waltz), Sandra Bullock (Meryl Streep), Jeff Bridges (Jeff Bridges), James Cameron (Kathryn Bigelow/Lee Daniels), Avatar (Precious)
Thank you Kathy. Now I can watch reruns of the Andy Griffith Show on Oscar night (Glad to see Rip Torn wasn't in any of your picks).
You know, if your picks pan out, you can expect a PM from me for some PowerBall Numbers.
Great, Kathy. But...um... how about Best Screenplay? I'm hurt and extremely disappointed in you for not mentioning those 2 categories.
I haven't even heard of many of these movies much less seen them. I only saw Inglroious bastards and thought it was sooooo dreadful.
I loved kill bill and can't understand how the same man made the same movie.
I wish Precious would win! Mo'Nique may get to repeat her Golden Globe speech, but that'll probably be it. Remember how The Color Purple was shut out at the Oscars years ago? My brother has watched the Academy Awards since.

I'm betting on HollywollMeryl Streep and George for Best Actress/Actor, although I'd love to see Sandra Bullock and Jeff Bridges repeat their Golden Globe victories. Not getting my hopes up after Mickey Rourke was robbed by Sean Penn after Rourke won the Golden Globe. Swore I'd never watch another Academy Awards show after that.

Also, Avatar will probably get all the tech awards and Best Director and Picture after racking in all that money.
Having 10 Best Picture nominees should really help movies like An Education, District 9, and A Serious Man to get more attention which they richly deserve.

A Serious Man came out on DVD today. Inglorius Basterds, Hurt Locker, Julie and Julia (Streep), and UP are already out on DVD.

My two cents: Inglorius Basterds is brilliant. Also, I cannot understand how Viggo Mortensen was overlooked for The Road.
Hi Kathy, thanks for your fast typing.

I would love Meryl Streep to win. Yeah, she's been nominated so many times but she rarely wins. I think "Julie and Julia" was almost mediocre. But her performace was so rich, as usual. I don't understand why everyone calls her our greatest actress but she loses most of the time. What do you think her odds are? Pretty slim? I thought so.

Time for her, at aged 60, to get the glory prize.

Meryl Streep's sixteenth? Isn't that amazing?
