Kimberly Evans' Body Found Below Utah's Bells Canyon Falls

Kimberly Evans, 26, a preschool teacher at J E Cosgriff Memorial School in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Kimberly's body was located below a waterfall in Bells Canyon, Utah, this morning east of Salt Lake City following a tragic accident June 26th when she and a companion slipped trying to cross the water above the 90' falls.  (Evans family photo/Deseret News)

The body of Kimberly Evans, 26, was found Tuesday, July 6th, about 11:20 a.m. MDT, below one of the waterfalls in Bells Canyon, east of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Evans, a preschool teacher at J E Cosgriff Memorial School in Salt Lake City, had been on a first date hiking with Joseph Clark, 24, of Sandy, Utah, on June 26th when they attempted crossing the creek several feet above the falls.  Both apparently lost their footing and attempted to help each other, and went into the dangerous water and over the falls.

Clark was seen entering the water by witnesses, who pulled him from below the falls.  He was later taken by air ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City, treated and released with minor injuries to his hip and head after going over the 90' waterfall.

Previous searches for Evans had been suspended because of difficult recovery conditions, with the water being higher and faster than usual.   The location where the pair is said to have attempted crossing where the creek is about 8' across is used by many hikers.  The accident is the second this month to result in injury or fatality at that location.

Kimberly's body was located about 40' downstream from where Joseph Clark was pulled from the water, about 90' from the base of the 90' falls in a deeper section of water where debris was gathered near a strainer.  Because the water level was lower Tuesday morning, recovery efforts were more easily resumed.

Bells Canyon is a popular hiking destination in Utah, and Kimberly Evans is said to have been an avid outdoorswoman.

Kimberly is the daughter of Paul and Tammy Evans of LaBarge, Wyoming.  She is survived by her parents, a brother Sheldon, and sisters Aletha and Amber.

A memorial service is scheduled for Kimberly Evans Tuesday night, July 6th, in Holladay, Utah, at the LDS Church at 4032 South 2300 East, and is open to the public.  Her funeral will be held at the LDS Church in LaBarge, Wyoming (Highway 189 and Calpet Road), on Friday, July 9th, at 11:00 a.m.

How very sad for her family and friends. I am glad they found her, sometimes that isn't even possible. Thanks for posting. R
Kathy, this is truly a tragedy. As I mentioned before, she has such a sweet face. As a mother, I can't even imagine.

This is so tragic, for everybody! This personifies one of my worst fears, how an innocent event can turn bad so quickly.
Probably the second worst part of a tragedy like this would be to never find the body. At least now, that part is resolved. Life is so fragile.
I can't even express how sad this makes me feel. A terrible tragedy.
This must be so upsetting for you too, Kathy. Take care...
My heart is heavy with sadness for the loss of such a promising young woman and the family that will never be the same.

I'm sorry Kathy--I know this hurts.
What a horrible, horrible tragedy. My condolences go to family and friends. What deeply sad news.
So tragic! damn shame, really.
My heart goes out to her family, friends, and coworkers.
Enjoy your time here as it can end so fast. Only 26, what a sad tale.
How tragic for her and her family. It's one thing to die young, but to die because of a stupid accident makes it seem even more tragic.
My condolences to Kimberly's family as well as you. Six degrees or not....
Oh so sad. I'm glad they found her at least. Thank you for keeping us posted. Poor thing. What a sweet photo.
My do bad things always happen to good people? Tragic.
