Back in what is affectionately referred to the 'old days' of Open Salon (as if there really could be such a thing for a website so young), there used to be cute pet photos that went up on Fridays, tagged "aw."

That hasn't been a regular feature for a while now, but if I'm not mistaken it was something Kerry Lauerman instituted, along with Monday "roadie" (photo essays) and Tuesday "foodie" (food and drink/recipe) posts.

Two of the cutest girls to ever land on the Friday 'aw' are Lulu and Phoebe, Lisa's very talented pair, and I'm happy to see they made it back on the cover again today. If you missed it, please see their adorable picture here:

I loved those rascals Lulu and Phoebe, and now these two cuties. Your conure looks like he/she is boss of the pup. I'm a sucker for soft pets. Bring them on!

I wanted to say AW but its been used. I used to have a Sun Conure, their eyes are so cool. Mine used to yell "Cookie - Mary" at 6 am everyday.
The only way she would stop is if I put on a CD of Native Flutes. She would have loved Kit.

Kit, I came to OS in late June 2009 and since then it always has been a regular feature on Fridays. I think if you look under the 'aw' tags by date you'll notice that people never have stopped posting them. However, the last time one ended on the cover was about mid-March, if I'm not mistaken, likely just due to the editorial shifts. I think "roadie" Mondays and "foodie" Tuesdays essentially suffered the same fate. People do still tag pet posts 'aw' on Fridays, though.
