The Brilliance of Christopher Guest

Rate: 17 Flag

Whenever I really want to laugh, I put in a Christopher Guest movie.

Corky St. Clair pinch hits in one of my favorite scenes in Waiting for Guffman, "A Penny for Your Thoughts" with Parker Posey, actually quite a charming song written by fellow band member Michael McKean and his wife, Annette O'Toole.   I've been known to sing this to my baby bird in the shower.   He loves it.

Some of the funniest scenes from "A Mighty Wind," where Guest is Alan Barrows, one of The Folksmen.

Christopher Guest explains the initial inspiration for This is Spinal Tap to Ricky Gervais.

Nigel Tufnel:  These amps go to 11.  From This is Spinal Tap.

I'm not feeling particularly well tonight, so will leave you these for some laughs. Enjoy.
Ah Christopher Guest is brilliant! One of my favorite skits was when he played a trainer the first "male sychronised swimmers" and Martin Short, not a good swimmer had a floatie!
I'm not feeling well of late myself, Kathy, thanks for the smile.
Well, now that would be an x! Bump for you and Christopher Guest...xoxoxoxox dear one....
Those are some of our favorite movies are the Christopher Guest flicks. I still want some "My Dinner with Andre" action figures.
First, Kathy, feel better.
Second, rated for reminding me of just how much Chris Guest makes me laugh!
Third, feel better.
Thank you so much for posting these; very very funny! And I hope you're feeling better!
He has always been "one louder" in my book. My face freezes in a perma-smile watching this man's work. So authentically hysterical...

(Hope you feel better, Kathy.)
Thanks, Kathy, for the wonderful clips. I share your love of Chris Guest. His low-key humor is unique & unsurpassed.

Isn't Brit Chris the hereditary Lord Christopher? Or did he turn down the title?
Leon, he became the fifth Baron Haden-Guest in 1996 on the death of his father.
Thanks, Kathy. Now I need to think of Tony Curtis of The Bronx as the fatherinlaw of a baron.

Writer Anthony Haden-Guest, by the way, is Chris' brother. Wonder if he inherited a title as well.
Watching those two...Ricky Gervais and CG, what I would not give to have been in on that conversation. Two of the funniest men alive.
Guffman and Best in Show were iconic. I was not so crazy about A Mighty Wind but I agree that Guest is brilliant, underrated, and not prolific enough.
Hope you are feeling better...
I was afraid I had warfarin poisoning. Feeling a little better this morning.
It's always worth taking some time out for Christopher Guest. My fave us still his Nigel Tufnel role, especially that scene you picked out. Thnks for the laugh.
"A Mighty Wind" and "Best in Show" were two of the best movies ever made. And if you want to go back further, one of the best SNL skits ever was the two-man synchronized swimming video he made with Martin Short and Harry Shearer. It was sheer brilliance.
Thanks for the laughs! Chris Guest is one of my favorites!
Love him. love, love, love him.
Did I mention that I love him?
I do. I love him.
Yeah, he's definitely one of my favorites...rated!
A big Christopher Guest fan here too. In some ways, his humor reminds me of Will Ferrel's - loopy, self-important characters, a too-sincere juvenility, a sodden pathos.
