I See You As an Old Man

Rate: 56 Flag

I see you as an old man

Mr. Doctor-in-your-lab-coat, stethescope hanging,

silver haired

I see you on the other side of that bed

the man under the gown

the cloth

fearful of the cold metal

I see you as an old man

Mr. Banker in your leather chair

sitting in some club

somewhere

pondering figures

I see you

I see you on the other side of that green

counting money instead of sheep

remembering days if you can

little else

I see you as an old man

Mr. Son, Mr. Brother

Mr. Grandson

not knowing where that touch will lead

poems swimming in your head

automatic words

I love you

I'm sorry

I.  See.  You.

Thinking of you, Kathy. Your words are so tender and touching.~r
beautiful. you know how I love your poetry
Yes, you see it all...we see you and care and hope you are fine...thanks for this. As you can see we are all thinking of you and your dear husband. R
He's so lucky to have you. When battling in the hospital, it is so hard when one is only perceived as a room number or a blood pressure measurement in all the swirl. I wanted to scream, "Don't you see me in here?" And for Larry, you DO see him...
Thinking of you. Lots of love and best wishes to both you and Larry.
Thinking of you both as you see him there and all the hims he is for you.
Lovely Kathy...Thank you for this gift this morning...
Inspired and wise. People used to suggest a way to fight stage fright is to imagine your audience naked. Never worked for me, but imagining them as old and feeble just might do the trick.

My thoughts are with you and Larry.
Kathy,

I know that this is all very difficult and sad for you. Wanted you to know that I came by and am keeping up. My prayers are with you always.

Lovely poem!
Best Wishes,
Blittie
Lovely and poignant. My best to you both.

Yes. We all face the same demons if we live long enough.

Nice. Hope you're taking care of yourself.
My thoughts are with you too Kathy.
And we heard you back. Thanks for a very nice piece.
I feel like an old man too!!! Stupid aging!!!! :(

Beautiful, Kathy...xox
Just read the update and now the poem.
Rated with hugs, and wish I could do more.
this is a difficult poem and very different from how you usually write (aside from it being poetry). sad and very well done. I hope you can feel there are a lot of people here wishing the best for you and Larry, myself among them.
I like this. Really do. Thoughtful & genuine.
Words of love, sweet tender love. So beautiful.
rated with love and light to you both
Kathy, thinking of you.
We see him. We see you. Hugs and prayers.
Loving, tender words. God bless.
My best for you and Larry. R-
It's got to be difficult. I hope you're not feeling alone. Know that we're thinking of you and with you in spirit.
Sending love and light . . .
Beautiful and strong, like you. -R-
Kathy, thoughts and prayers your way... so very sorry to hear of your beloved husband's illness.
Thinking about you and your beloved, Kathy. Sending healing thoughts.
all best, Kathy to you all r.
Hugs, because I'm thinking you need as many as you can get right now.
Thinking of you and holding you and your husband in my thoughts. Hold that image...
I know nothing about poetry but I do know emotion behind words when I hear them and this was a beautiful, emotional piece. You and your hubby will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Profound and so beautiful. Love to you both.

I know what you mean, and am thinking of you and your beloved one.
I.C.U.'s can bring an entire history together in the bellies of all those sterile contraptions. Laying down next to all the trappings of infirmaries and hospital gowns, who over forty does not appear aged and long-lived? This was profoundly moving...and I caught the golf imagery, too. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Kathy.
Lovely. I see you and Larry and am thinking of you as you deal with this tough patch.

And I see you, strong, observant and loving.
Lovely, and my best to you both.
i'm so sorry for what you're going through, kathy. it's such a struggle to maintain any kind of normal perspective in that place with all that stuff trying to obscure who the humans are. so sad.
Kathy,
Beautiful, and my heart aches.
Beautifully expressed.Sorry you are your husband have to go through this.
My prayers are with you..this poem was a very intense and deeply loving tribute to a rough place..wishing your husband well.
Loving and sad, tender. R
Sending you my best and as much warmth and love as you can take in. This is moving. Hold on and keep loving as hard as you can.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
So much truth in this. Turning the tables offers growth for all of us. Take a walk in someone's shoes and you'll never look at the world the same way again. Great poem. Rated
