Wow...what flower is that?
Really, Never seen anything like that.
It's a passiflora (passion flower). I think the variety is called 'Lavender Lady'. There is a whole story about the passion of christ that has to do with the crown of thorns and other interesting stuff I don't really remember because I'm just too impressed with it's stunning design. This is where one gets passion fruit.
I like your avatar! The passion flower is beautiful. I tried to grow one once, and it tried to take over the entire neighborhood. Very passionate about where it wanted to go, it seemed to me. Still, they are exquisite.
I, too, love plants. This pic is a beauty.
They grow wild where I live.

Mine is a Wisconsin Wood Violet, our state flower. Learn more at http://www.wisconsin.gov/state/core/wisconsin_state_symbols.html

I love your passiflora caeurulea. Did you grow it yourself? It looks like it's on a NYC window sill or maybe on a patio outside, high up.
Katina:

You are the luckiest woman in the world to be growing such beauty on a rooftop in NYC. For you, this spring, I will scatter some wildflower seeds in my front yard here in Wisconsin.

So what else do you grow high up there in the sky?
katina - have now downloaded the image for the OS Collage (I’m doing the grunt work for DogWoman). Thanks. Almost missed you since it wasn't tagged 'os collage'

Great photo!

BTW, if you haven't done so already, please rate Who’s left? - OS Avatar Collage Update so it can go up on the front page and get more exposure for the project.
I too grow the Passion Flower. They are hardy and do return every year...problem here in the north. Mine do not have time to bloom !
The weather seems to warm too late in the season. I really want to keep them going. The "start" came from my Great Grandmother, and we have kept it going for years. No problem with the ones still in their "original" environs.....Wonder what you do to keep them blooming? (mine are violet with a dark stamin and pestils (sp?)(...just another genus..still a passiflora).

I brought two "starts" in for winter....they are still surviving...
That one's actually P. alato-caerulea, it's a cross between P. alata and P. caerulea. It has one of the most amazing fragrances...there was one on a wall on my way home in Seattle and I would frequently steal a flower as I passed in the evening. Priests arriving in S. America saw them for the first time and decided that everything was symbolic. My favorite is the 10 petals, which stand for "The twelve apostles, minus Thomas and Judas." Amazing what folks will come up with when they're languising in the jungle and looking for something familiar. ;)
