Watching way too much cable teevee, I have seen those commercial spots for Ancestry.com where you can pay a fee and learn all about your illustrious ancestors. The first ad featured an astounded father finding out that his beloved son's interest in toy planes was fueled by a family connection with the Wright Brothers themselves! Other ads have followed wherein guys discover that their uncle was a decorated soldier. Now they offer a feature where people can post a photo of a document (typically a birth certificate or a military discharge or a census report) next to a name on the family tree. So I think they must mean "chafed" but then I look it up online and find this definition in the Urban Dictionary
