1000s Waiting Patiently to Vote in Florida

Rate: 8 Flag

Shown below are the current waiting times to cast a vote in S. Florida on the last day of early voting. The wait times have been growing all week.  Most of these people are now waiting longer than I did to get into the Obama rally!

I present it as a very encouraging sign of the level of commitment and involvement of the voters in my corner of the country.

Do you think that the wait times are shorter in areas that are predominately white (or not black) or is everyone waiting?
Everyone is waiting. This list represents all of the early voting locations available in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Most areas are quite mixed, but there are some areas that are more predominantly white and they are lined up too. e.g., Cooper City/Davie, where I voted was more than 75%, Boca City Hall, Wellington will be mainly white. It's definately everyone :-)
Hopefully, all the early voting will cut down on wait times on election day. It is encouraging to see such widespread enthusiasm.
this makes me both terribly hopeful and terribly sad
Thanks for this...and I echo what lpsrock is saying...
Doesn't this say something about all the voters that hadn't voted before if now we are seeing such loooooooong lines and early voting?
This has been such an inspiring campaign on so many levels.
I can't wait to see what the results will be post-election. Specifically what the total # of voter turnout is compared to previous elections.
Thank you, Kelleylark!

Makes me hopeful. Very hopeful and proud of Americans that they would make such an effort.

Geeze, thanks for this. It makes me appreciate that we have mail in ballots in Washington. The ballots were received by mail approximately 14 days before the election. Well over half of them have already been mailed in according to our official Democratic Election Observers in Whatcom County.
i think it's a great sign.

where did you get the data? is this the worst voting centers in the state, or representative of most places in the state?
Joan - There are far more normal precinct voting stations open on election day too, so yes, hopefully those lines will benefit from the early voters.

lps and Mary - Why sad?

Dave - the data is from the Ft Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel website. They've posted it every day since voting began, updating seaveral times a day. It was accurate for me when I went to vote, and seems close enough compared to the TV stations reports. I'd post the link but it's gone. Early voting is over. I do think these are some of the worst waits in the state based on the little bit I'd heard about elsewhere, plus, we are by far one of the most densely populated (and Democratic) areas.

Thanks everyone else, for the comments. I tend to believe this bodes well for Tuesday - Broward and Palm Beach are heavily Democratic and we need all the turnout we can possibly get!
Wow. We have essentially 100% voter turn-out and I've never waited more than about 10 minutes. And we use paper ballots that can be recounted if necessary, too, not machines.
