Although I basically write all day in my paid work, it is dry, technical and scientific stuff and I get paid mostly for knowledge and experience. I don't think of myself as "a writer". But I have a lot of fun on OS anyway!
I'm still technically on OS sabbatical, but I've swung around because I'm stuck home sick. We were at a great party with friends earlier, but had to leave because our whole family has come down with a nasty head cold. It's vicious. Everyone is asleep except me. I'm in my pajamas on a sleeping bag on the couch. I'll probably be asleep within the hour.
I like New Years Eve, but often it is anticlimactic. I'm sick. Or traveling. Or something.
Thanks for stopping by Turtle, you sound miserable, which is fine. I mean, not fine that you ARE miserable, but fine to sink in to it and accept and be it :-)
You'll be starting 2009 feeling on the mend I hope, on all levels :-)
I'm home this evening. I'd intended to work on a literature review for a terrible article that I'm writing, but I can't take any more library and information science articles. I'm re-reading a Stephanie Plum mystery instead. Don't tell my dean!
I'm here. I have bronchitis and the medicine I'm taking for it is making me jittery. I can't sleep. But I'm sure I'd still be here even if I didn't have bronchitis.
I'm in bed with my laptop surrounded by dogs and my snoring husband. I'm anxious about it actually turning midnight (in 13 minutes) because I'm afraid there will be fireworks that will scare the dogs.
I just wrote a depressing post about death and I am not sure what it means that I'm ringing in the new year talking about people being blown up and the smell of human remains decomposing. But it was on my mind.
Hi Katie and Wayne - I get the fireworks worry; they've been going all out here now for hours behind my house. I'm fine for ME but it is horse country across the road, and I have owned noise-freaked dogs too.
Katie, I am going now to read your death post. I've had a few weird dreams lately but they are about being bombed and I know it comes from the news. It all gets depressing and I quit watching.
Well met by moonlight, Kellylark (jes' can't stop riffing on the ole Bard -- and no moonlight either, windchill -15 degrees F after the blizzard earlier today!).
I'm up and about! Seems the economy has put a damper on the amount of illegal "ammo dumping" within the city this NY. I remember the good ole days of full-auto fire in the drug infested street behind Mom's Section 8 apartment. Hell, last year's reaffirmation of the Second Amendment lasted a good 15 minutes. Darned economy! Glad to see all's well in OS land.
Natalie! I love watching the Sydney celebration. I've travelled once to Oz and it is magical, and I saw so little. My Sweetheart had been there too, saw more of your amazing country than I did.
I felt so at home there! Happy New year to you too, my new Aussie friend :-)
Eric, thanks for a unique take on it. Here in S Fla, all the news tonight warned folks against shooting for the hell of it. I have the windows open to discern firecrackers from gun shots (as if that will help). A safe New tear to you!
Hi Kelly, I'm in south Florida too. Was over on South Beach with my sister and brother-in-law. Went to a party on the water --fun crowd, kind of like The Bird Cage! Then back to my place on the 22nd floor to watch the fireworks bloom all over the city.
Lea! That sounds great! Not for us cos he sleeps early but I'd love a S Fla. meet if you're ever up for that. We've "ventured" to South beah once or twice in 2 years since I've moved back here.
Anyway, aren't we lucky with this fantabulous weather???????
Hi Kelly - As scheduled our quiet family new years has dwinled to just me checking on my OS peeps now that Janice and Lofton have hit the hay. We noted the east coast arrival of 2009, finished watching Ratatouille and are now 2/3 tucked in. I may not last till the official west coast arrival of the year but wish you and all OS members health and prosperity in the coming year.
Hi Kelly Cutie! I am back from celebrating and do not intend to stay awake past 12:01, 2009!!! Cheers and get some sleep, girl! That is when our brain heals and our body regenerates, allowing us to feign youth for another day, week...month... I know, I can be a ball buster, but that's what age does to one. :) xo
Hi Kelly, My computer clock says 4:44 a.m., so I should be in bed. We had a nice family night with friends, playing games and playing with sparklers. Sometimes low-key works best.
I am here, up early New Year's Day, after falling asleep at 10 p.m., having failed to stay up through even the first hour of Ryan Secrest's Rockin' New Year's Eve.
Only a few more days before we get the country off the wrong track.
I've been here off and on this whole holiday because I am sick - from cold to ear infection - it sounds like a candy wrapper is in my ear. I've learned why little kids tug on their ear - they're trying to get that candy wrapper out!
Just discovered this site & added my opnion/comment to one page. Yes Happy 2009 from north-east Scotland.......is'nt it good the festive season's past :-)

It beats a lot of other New Year thingies I've had!
It's difficult NOT to feel hopeful this eve, but with a cynic's edge, ya know?

2009, let's make it fine!
"2009, Let's make if fine" as a good motto to start the year"
It kinda neat being up alone at this time hmmm?

"Ohh the shame.. the shame of it all! I used to always be last one standing." Old age just creeps on and gets you when you aren't looking.
minutes to spare! Just logged on.
Many blessings and Happy Happy Happy!
