My Ducklings

Rate: 27 Flag

Just for a smile -

We've been watching these ducklings since they were itty bitty babies.  There were 17 to start and 15 remain. Our driveway and front of the yard become a mini-lake during heavy rains (every day lately), and they play here frequently.  They are at a gawky stage now.  Yesterday when my Sweetheart came home, they all followed him into the garage!   They have no fear of humans or cars (they are an unruly gaggle and dart into the road at will).  They've brought me lots of laughs which I hope to pass on to ya'll.

(And thanks to my Sweetheart for the presence of mind to grab the camera.)

I LOVE these!!!! What will happen to them when they grow up? Check your inbox, btw. I'm emailing you in a minute. Short notice but see if Saturday day is available.....
Aw.

And I have already PMed you about Saturday. We need a quartet reunion.
Nice ducks! I had a couple of ducks once. They were so funny. They followed me everywhere!
Cartouche, I imagine when they grow up they will just add to the legions of ducks who live in the neighborhood. I do NOT feed the ducks because I don't want permanent duck visitors crapping in my driveway all day!

I think I can come Saturday. I'll need to leave to catch my nephew pitching in a baseball game in Boca at 3, weather permitting, and I know dragging myself away from you gals will not be easy!
Rich it's hilarious how they follow people. They've been good fun and so darn cute!
They are so funny. I love ducks. There are some living on the pond in our office park. Last Friday they got in the road and cars were blowing their horns and having to go around and they were just padding around in the street....dum, de, dum, de, doe, doe....
Thanks, sweetheart and sweetheart's sweetheart.
Very cute, nothing quite like a baby duck, more adorable even than chicks. We've incubated both.
Nanethay, life, and Lauren thanks so much for stopping by! These ducklings have given me a lot of pleasure this past month :-)
Thanks Stellaa :-)
Oh yes stellaa, I still love that book! And do you know there is a scuplture of the ducklings of the book in the Boston Public Garden? http://www.schon.com/public/ducklings-boston.php
Not just any ducks, MUSCOVY ducks - if that's mom in the background...we used to raise these when we lived in Kansas, now we've got a Pekin, 2 Runners, 2 Anconas, and a Crested. It's been raining alot, so they're in duck heaven. Otherwise, they have a wading pool :)
Thanks for making my day.
Is the big one standing off to the side the Mama looking after her brood, making sure there's no fighting, and everybody shares? Too friggin' cute.
bluesurly, I'm not sure if that's Mom or Dad in the garage, the all white one just outide is smaller and they are always together with the brood. If these are the same two that had duck sex in my driveway-lake several times last March, Mom would be the white one (the one who got stomped and mashed into the water while he had his way).

dea dog you're welcome :-)

kaysong, they were cuter when they were smaller, but I could never get a good snap of them, and never all together like this.

karen, I think that's Dad, and Mom is standing watch just outside the garage.

Thanks John!
Rated for super cute!
Holy crap! You’ve got a squeaky clean (and magically empty!) garage!!! How does someone do that? Seriously? I don’t think the light of day (or any light for that matter) has hit the floor of our garage since...well, forever.

Oh, and, uh, cute ducks BTW.
Kelly, they are too cute. When I moved to Florida, two unexpected things moved me. I mean I expected to be awed by the water, the beaches, the foliage. But the clouds are very different here and struck me as most majestic right away. And most of all, the bird life here is strikingly awesome. We have many herons and cranes, amongst other things. Thanks for the pics and the story.
I did a whole interactive blog about ducks...this is so fabulous!
Janie - I know about geese! They can be vicious, although I was attacked by a duck at our duck pond as a kid and have just a little residual fear of them too!

David- Ha! The garage is my Sweetheart's man-space and the cars are his hobby. The clean garage is one of the few conditions in our relationship! Plus, many moves (much deletion of stuff) and no children make it all possible.

Thanks Pilgrim, they are very sweet ducks.

Danya, I have an earlier post about some of the other birds I watch from my home office window. They are prolific and beautiful here for sure.

Buffy - an interactive blog about ducks? I'd like to see that, I'm glad you liked this one.

Thanks to all for stopping by.
How sweet! What a handsome family!
Are they very quacky? Does your garage echo?

Yay for cute animal pics! :)
Look at that family; They are adorable!
LOVELY@! Thanks for sharing :)
I really appreciate the views and comments o'steph, keenoctopuss, jk, marcella and sarah!

The ducks (they come by once or twice a day) keep me smiling and laughing. They are very quiet though, I've never heard so much as a peep (or a quack) even from the adults.

These is a new brood of 9 itty bitty babies coming along next :-)
Too cool.

About 6 months ago I saw a baby duck runing across the street I was driving on. That in itself is not too strange, but I live in the friggin desert. Where in hell did a duck come from around here???

Talk about a foul ball. That little guy was way out of place.
Omigawd, that is just more cuteness than the law allows.

So, when they get older will they be migrating? And returning every year to have more babies? You might need a bigger garage! Thanks for sharing this. Baby ducks are my all time fave cuteness. :)
This is so cute I almost cannot stand it! Great post!
