Bio
Once again it's time for a change, figured I'd use a real pic of me. Of course this one is much more pleasant, than how I look these days. Politics, Gay Rights and the Environment are still very much on my mind. I'm still fighting those evil Lawn Nazis', and I have all but given up on the intelligence of the average American, but will continue to express my opinions -- over and over and over. Until it makes you or me sick, whichever comes first! Hopefully someone will listen!

Government censorship alive and well------in the USA!

Awhile back, I wanted to watch the German news on Deutsche Welle.  To my dismay, I discovered it could not be watched in the USA.  Neither could I watch any other foreign newscast.  Even thought they were there for everyone to watch.  Well that is everyone but people in our country, and maybe places like Iran, or China!

I wrote to DWW and asked them what the problem was.  They said, the USA did not allow them to play their broadcasts in the US because of copyrights.  Duh, copyrights?  That newscast wasn't produced by any American company, so why would the United States care?

Then it suddenly made sense, an epiphany sort of!  It wasn't because their material was copyrighted.  It was because we must watch only content produced by companies here in the good ole US of A!  By watching a foreign news broadcast, we are infringing on their right to indoctrinate us with their version of the news.

Just recently Congress voted on a bill, that would prevent us from downloading any videos, or music from internet sites like You Tube.  All in the guise of copyright protections.  Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I don't see why we cannot share videos and music that we have purchased legally!  I think it's an infringement upon our right of free speech.  Likewise if you post a picture on the internet, I don't see why people should not be able to make a copy for their own use.  Evidently our govenment disagrees.  This is just another excuse for censoring what we watch and listen to on the internet.

What I do know is this.  Our government is secretly spying on everything we say and do on the internet.  The same goes for cellphones.  I just don't think that's very nice, as Andy Rooney would say!

I do watch the BBC regularly for the Euro perspective on world news.
You watch the American version!
I think your government still allows news from "friendly" countries like the UK and Canada - in most cases.

I expect they'll soon put an end to any non-American information reaching American citizens though. The just passed legislation that permits them to legally feed Americans, in America, blatant propaganda. They've also allowed themselves to feed others propaganda but that's got to be retroactive since they've been doing that for a long time.

And there are still those who think that the Democrats have a different end goal than the Republicans...!! Hahahahaha! A different route to oligarchy, maybe; but oligarchy it will be. And that's if you're lucky; you could well get a theocracy!
.
I was talking about watching European news direct on the computer.
Not the European news for American audiences, on American TV!
You are free to share your purchased music with your friends, provided all the sharing is on the device you bought it for. I share my music with my friends all the time when they come over to my house.

Also, I don't know the problem you're having, but I can get streaming video from Deutsche Welle, at least in Deutsch .
I know that on the internet, it is easy enough to access such sites. Al Jazeera is a good one. They are infinitely more "fair and balanced" than Fox News. But I agree that censorship is a real threat, not only too television programming, but on the internet as well. I have noticed that on Facebook, there are all kinds of ways that put limits on what you say-- it only goes as far as you are willing to pay. Social readers warehouse you, and search engines bury you. Maybe people really need to get out on the street again...
Ok, let me correct something here. I went onto Deutsche Welle, last night. They now do provide streaming news and other content. A year ago they did not! I know because I contacted them, and they explained to me that they were not permitted due to government regulations dealing with copyrights. That said, content that is broadcast to a European audience is still not available.
Perdidochas, I would appreciate you sending me a link to where you get this. On the DWW website, I only get a choice of viewing their English language content. Yes I can read the German news, I just cant view the local stuff, in German. I wanted to watch this, in order to improve my German language skills. I need to be hearing spoken German, not just reading it.
As for the content thing, it's so strange to me that more people are not aware that Congress just voted on this. I'm not sure of the name of the bill but there was plenty about it on internet news sites such as Alternet, and Credo. It's supposedly to protect musicians and film producers from pirating. It is in fact a way to make you purchase this from the source instead of being able to watch it or listen to it for free. That is an abridgment of free speech!
I would love to watch the BBC regularly; our news gets worse all the time. Have you noticed that the big network talk shows have the same news, the same guests, and the same safe conclusions every weekend?
Yes Kathy, it is the dumbing down of America!
