We had a problem with our database last night, and I'm very sorry to report that anything -- posts, comments, ratings, messages -- you might've done on Open Salon between 1:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. ET (10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. PT) is gone and cannot be retrieved.
This happened during a scheduled downtime to actually upgrade the system to prevent data loss, but there was a mishap. We're incredibly sorry for the inconvenience this surely caused some of you.

um, could you just delete the relentless string of phone messages without listening to them? thanx.
p.s. i heart you, Kerry
But outages make it difficult to rely on OS as the homebase for a blog. That and the lack of built-in stats...
Those are literally the only hints of minor frustration I have had with this spectacular site.
Being in this business myself, I understand how these things happen. But I also understand how they may be avoided. If I weren't sleepy from having stayed up extra, extra late in order to make a timely post of the thing, perhaps I wouldn't be taking it so hard.
Maybe I should instead be focusing on the irony of a technical glitch deleting a post about "Code Monkey" Jonathon Coulton.
Sorry you guys had such a headache.
I'm glad the site came back up this morning. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle the OS withdrawal.
Thanks
Which also applies.
I'm happy I didn't write during those hours. But it's great OS is back again!

I blame the Artesians.
Well.
:-D
I saw a comment and rating from a user on my recent blog, which has now disappeared! I was getting all upset with what on earth had happened to it.. I was going to reply!
Now I get what happened: thanks for letting us know
-_-
We witches (and maybe rhymes-with-witches) [hi Leonde] are still having trouble. I have no idea how to log out of my service provider...or how to get back in, and no amount of incense and chanting is working. However, my daughter next-door is expecting a visit from our local computer shaman tomorrow to get her on hi-speed, and I'll get him over to see if he can help... (I'm on DSL 'lite' and not AOL...)
(Well, he seems to be trying to duck responsibility for the economy. So SOMETHING has got to be his fault!)
peace.
the cover and get the "Database missing" window. Just happened
twice. I click again and I'm back to normal (whatever that is)
I really do believe that the last database change (and another coming up this weekend -- cross your fingers!) will go a long way toward making the site more reliable. We're building it for a strong, long future. And have I mentioned lately that we're still in Beta??
Waiting with some trepidation for what happens in next weekend's upgrade...
Padraig, how are you doing?
