Paramount Pictures Celebrates 100 Years of Filmmaking

Rate: 1 Flag
Paramount Pictures was founded in 1912, which means that, just like Universal Pictures a few months ago, it will be celebrating its 100th anniversary as a movie studio. It commerated the occasion with a new logo and a fun poster of minimalist symbols representing some of their classic motion pictures over the years.

Paramount distributed Wings, the first Best Picture winner in the history of the Academy Awards. Some of my favorites from Paramount's library of cinema include Sunset Boulevard, Shane, Rear Window, The Ten Commandments, Vertigo, Psycho, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, The Odd Couple, Barbarella, The Godfather, Charlotte's Web, Serpico, Chinatown, Death Wish, Nashville, The Bad News Bears, The Marathon Man, Saturday Night Fever, Pretty Baby, The Amityville Horror, Airplane!, Raiders of the Lost Ark, 48 HRS, Flashdance, Trading Places, The Dead Zone, Footloose, Beverly Hills Cop, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Untouchables, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Coming to America, Scrooged, Naked Gun, The Hunt for Red October, Wayne's World, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, Clueless, Face/Off, Titanic, Deep Impact, The Truman Show, Saving Private Ryan, Sleepy Hollow, Napoleon Dynamite, Cloverfield, Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, Watchmen, Monsters vs. Aliens, The Fighter, True Grit, Thor, and Super 8. That's quite a list!

Paramount had a number of blockbuster franchises, from Friday the 13th to Star Trek to Transformers. It has some interesting flicks coming up: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, World War Z, Maleficent, Noah, and Gotti.  Here's hoping the studio has 100 more years of great filmmaking ahead.

Too bad on their anniversary summer they shelved GI Joe until spring of 2013. I understand why... Bad economy.
What an amazing piece of research! Thanks
