Can Justin Timberlake Save Myspace?

Rate: 2 Flag
Remember when I told you that Justin Timberlake was investing in Myspace?  Remember when I asked if Myspace could stay relevant in the face of stiff social media competition? We will soon see if there's any life left in the brand that brought social networking to the masses.

MTV News reports that "Myspace2.0" will have "an interface that looks a bit like Facebook-meets-Instagram, with hints of Pinterest and Windows 8." That can only succeed, however, if it offers users something different from what they're already getting from other online destinations and services. The solution might be in the way it defines itself.  Tim Vanderhook, one of the owners along with Timberlake, summarized the new direction for Myspace as "a social network for the creative community to connect to their fans." We'll see if it works.

Has JT ever failed at anything or performed poorly at anything in his life? Answer - No. The kid's reaction when he got Punk'd was even kinda endearing and sorta made you resent Kutcher for Punk'ng him. I wouldn't bet against him...I know that.
I actually had more fun on MySpace than I do on Facebook. But Facebook is where everyone seems to be - it's supposedly more "respectable", so unless MySpace can pull all those FB users in, I don't see much hope for it.
MySpace offered a lot of options to customize your profile page, add music, videos, etc. BUT "everyone" migrated to Facebook. The key to social media is being part of the conversation where everyone else is -- which is why I still find Google+ useless since not enough people are using it. Right now, the bulk of folks are on Facebook and Twitter. If people stopped commenting on Open Salon for example why would we waste our time posting here? Same with Myspace -- if the only people there are "brands" trying to sell us something, what's the point. BUT maybe Justin Timberlake's vision will make it work and draw the masses back. We shall see.
