Phenominal. I instantly flashed on a photo I took in Rome of a long portico with endless columns, St. Peter's Basilica.
Similar lines and color shades.
They would look very strange and very cool hanging together.
thank you both.

while wandering around this place, i definitely had that feeling of being in a cathedral ofo some sort, which was an interesting contrast to the purpose of the structure.
Peering into the hearts of men.
such stark beauty!
Spectacular photos.
that first picture alone should be shown at high schools all over the country for its deterrence potential.
beautiful, evocative photos km. I love seeing your stuff.
I lived around the corner from this place. It is a must see when coming to Philly. This was built in 1829 - then came Holmesburg in the 1840's (closed) and then the House of Corrections built in the 1860's.
HOC is the oldest operating jail in America and although much bigger, it's blocks and radial design bearing a striking resemblance to Eastern State.
Imagine being locked up or going to work in this place - with all the beauty of the architecture, combined with the detritus and decay accumulated over 150 years of hard luck and horror stories.
The second photo looks like something from the Renaissance in Florence. Gorgeous.
I used to live in the Philly area. Every year around Halloween, The Eastern State Penitentiary used to have special creepy tours of the place. Have you ever been to Alcatraz? Thanks for sharing the great photos.
Great photography. And great to see you getting the exposure (all photographers need that, right?) you richly deserve. I think Stacey Youdin (who has a wonderful eye) and Critical Mess first pointed me your way. Thank you for the feast for the eyes you provide.

WOOF
Oh my, at first you think that can not be the same place. Awesome!
Great photos. Would like to go roller blading there.
How can that be so beautiful? The curves, the lines; it's amazing such lovely architecture went into that purpose. The light gives it an ethereal quality.
My perspective is that is not, in its very BEST condition, somewhere I would ever want to be long term. Your photo catches that.
Rated!
interesting how meditative and ethereal your pic makes it look
wow

*blink*

i want so much to say something to each of you but i cam very overwhelmed with the great feedback and comments on these pics.
and being someone who is not terribly verbally coherant at the best of times...well, i am just not sure what else to say but Thank You!

most of the credit for these pics goes to Eastern State for being so darned interesting and photogenic.

maybe i will make an actual text post to address some of the things that are coming into my head...but until then, for those of you who would like more information about the location, you can go read about it here: http://www.easternstate.org/

again, thank you all for having a look and for liking what i do. :) i am feeling very "sally field" at the moment...
Wow. I couldn't believe what it was. The photos are so compelling.
I hope plans are underway to renovate the place into something more positive.
Blink and you miss it. Congratulations on making the OS cover on a day when I had next to no time to devote. I think Critical Mess, other aggregators, friends, the trails of comments on friends' pages, most reads and highly rateds, combined with the editors picks and covers make for a wonderful collaboration rather than a competition, other than for one's attention. Good luck with the show. These photographs deserve widespread recognition (IMHO).
Wow - I LOVE these photos!! Ruins are pretty much my favorite things ever. Thanks for the link - what an amazing place-
Ohmigod... Those are beautiful. I'm just fucking in love with them. Gorgeous light. Dreamy, lyrical, and sexy.
