Iranian Nuclear Heat Augurs No End to "Cold War"

Rate: 0 Flag

The Cold War Ends By Ali Ettefagh Postglobal, Washington Post, January 2, 2008

A response by Con George-Kotzabasis

The Iranian commentator Dr. Ali Ettefagh has laid Iran’s libido dominandi on his psychoanalyst’s couch and has given us his professional prognostic diagnosis that it’s rapidly finding its gratification not in the acquisition of nuclear weapons but in “common sense”, “stronger friendship, good neighborly conduct and removing doubt…(by ‘holocausting’ Israel?), in trade…and in the launch of an Egyptian –Iranian car”. According to Ettefagh, “stability and peaceful co-existence” is President’s Ahmadinejad’s agenda. He states, this is “the stark reality of today against the fog of yesterday”.

But the fog has not disappeared! And it’s behind it that Ahmadinejad’s regime is building its nuclear arsenal by which it will dominate the region and find ultimately its gratification in the establishment of the twelfth Imam Mahdi’s prophesy of a Caesaro-Ayatollah state, seizing the leadership of the Muslim world and posing a stupendous threat to the existence of Western civilization.

This is why a politically and historically prudent U.S. administration should have all options on the table.

“Solutions” present dichotomies... sadly, some appear insurmountable.

Within Iran, the vast majority are warm caring people, governed by a brutal “Theocracy”. I have spoken with fellow cyclists that have toured Iran and have first hand accounts of it being one of the most friendly places on earth. People desperate to talk about “our world” from an outsiders perspective. Indicating – to me – that there is “The Press” and there is “The Free Press”.

It has been reported that your President elect wants dialogue with Iran?. Personally I hope “we”, as human beings, resort to dialogue everywhere. If dialogue fails, with the “theocracy”, clearly we need another path.........

Opposition groups DO exist in Iran, despite formidable obstacles. They are well organised and with a little research, can be found on the web.

Assisting these opposition groups and letting the world and to the best of our ability, those affected, “know”, that it is being done and WHY it is being done needs further exploration. The “internal dynamics” within a nation can often present a better, lasting solution, as opposed to an “outside” attack.

I for one hope, that resorting to misinformation, clandestine, underhanded methods, will soon become a thing of the past. Unless one can clearly point to where this has benefited humanity...

The (a) new “Coalition of the willing” - I would hope – will be one that is able to reach all corners of our world, with a message of HOPE.

The “Old Way” would be to just “Nuke Em”................. Do you really want that? Or is “this” what some people are looking for?

Brian..... Just my 2c worth...
Brian31,

In a world that moves with a glacial tempo, to be cautiously wise is a great virtue. Regrettably we don’t live in such a world but in a geopolitical one that moves with celestial speed. In a “brutal Theocracy” the ‘“internal dynamics” within a nation’ will take years to bear their fruit. And a “resort to dialogue” is unfortunately a hopeless “hope”.

The EU has been doing this for years without being able to break the Iranian iceberg of intransigence. Iran must be given an explicit warning that if it does not immediately cease its uranium enrichment it would be facing a first devastating strike with conventional weapons and if it retaliates against Israel or U.S. bases in the region, as a result of this strike, it will be facing a second strike with nuclear weapons. Only such a clear warning has a chance of replacing the Ahmadinejad regime with moderate oppositional forces.
