Rate: 3 Flag

Please click on the picture and take yourself to a fashionable slide show at the Christian Science Monitor, featuring fourteen colourful and fascinating feats of hatdom.

Surely, something that has been worn at Ascot may be splendid enough to please our beloved Joan... as well as her many readers?

In the comments, please feel free to suggest your preference from those in the slide show, or to link to another hat, if you would prefer.

I absolutely adore hats and would love to see them make a come-back. To think women and men used to wear hats, caps, bonnets, etc., everywhere! Of course, there's the problem of "hat hair" and so on, but anyway....
I agree Amy. Of course, modern hats might cause hat hair, but those from a couple of centuries ago, probably did not, with their generous crowns and swooping brims. Besides, the ladies often wore lace caps, as well, thus hiding their "hat" hair. (Obviously, I'm sill watching too much Jane Austen. ;~)
These are all so fantastical! Just for the humor of it, I vote for #8 ("I paid for this hat from expenses"). :D
I vote for the one by Louis Mariette (No. 2 of 14).
All excellent choices, my friends!

So far, we have one vote each for numbers, 2, 7 and 8.

Anyone else?
number 8 must have top marks for being topical.

Are you aware in the States that there is a scandal hitting the media concerning the abuse of the system of claiming expenses by the members of Parliament. (That is the Westminster Parliament in London)
I have read about that, Jon, and figured that was what no. 8 was about. A very interesting story here, given that OUR newspapers persist in blaming the internet for their demise.

Your Telegraph, otoh, made huge sales inroads by covering that "expense" story.

[sigh...]
